Stumbled into the Pern books during a rainy summer in middle school and theyve stuck with me ever since. The dragons, the Thread, that whole world-its the kind of story that feels like a warm, weird hug every time you reread it. McAffreys blend of sci-fi grit and medieval charm just hits different, especially if youre into worlds that feel both ancient and futuristic. The dragonrider bonds, the no-nonsense characters, the way she makes you care about giant lizards and their humans-its pure nostalgia gold. Still hold up way better than most epic fantasy out there.

I think Peter Jackson could pull it off, and, after LOTR, he's probably one of a very few directors who could tell the studio execs to sit down, shut up, and let him do his job.
