People have survived many years without +45w charging. Patience is a virtue. How will I survive to wait 45-60 minutes?
Lets not forget that midrange phones have much better battery life over flagship phones that boast about "all-day battery life" like it is a huge achievement. 1 day battery life is poor battery life and a 45w charger doesn't fix that. My mid-range phones would get couple days on a single charge.
I would just note for Samsung, the newest Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 still cap wired charging at 25w. There's probably a good reason they do it to maintain battery longevity with the current battery tech used. Faster charging generates more heat, which can be the worst enemy of Lithium based batteries.
Here's why:
- Reduced Stress:
- Heat Dissipation:
- Fewer Charge Cycles:
- "Sweet Spot":
While some users might prefer the convenience of charging to 100% and letting it drain fully, limiting charging to 85% (or even 80%) can be a good practice to prolong your phone's battery life in the long run. You can always adjust your charging habits based on your usage patterns and needs."Charging to 100% and keeping it there for extended periods can put extra stress on the battery, potentially leading to faster degradation.
Fast charging and high charge levels can generate more heat, which is detrimental to battery health. <--- Like 45W hot chargers!
Constantly charging to 100% and draining it down to zero means the battery goes through more charge cycles, which can also shorten its lifespan.
The 20-80% range is often cited as the "sweet spot" for lithium-ion batteries, as it minimizes stress and degradation.
It is simple science. Everybody knows this. I can't believe some people don't have a clue about heat effects and battery decomposition. On my Samsung phone, it literally has the battery protection mode in settings that states 3 options (basic, adaptive that stops charging at 80% when asleep and switch to basic when awake and MAXIMUM that stops charging at 80%). Samsung understands how battery works.
25w is too low, but not because of wattage, but because they almost never include 20V. 30w and up generally include 20V and allow you to charge laptops and other devices in a pinch.
The 30w version of this is just as small and $2 more, I'd get that over this, for that reason.

Quick charge is a good idea if charging mid-day. 30 min vs 3 hours makes little difference for an overnight charge.
There are certainly use cases for different options. For me 25 w for several phone-only and 65 for two shared laptop-phone locations are sweet spots.
