Woot has 16" MBP M1 Pro with 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD for $949.99, standard English keyboard. Can be made even slicker with some c1rcuitous thinking. Woot says it's New Open Box, not sure exactly what that means but seems better than refurbished!

Edit: even slicker deal was deemed ineligible for some reason

Sounds like a good deal at first but 16gb would give me pause. I had the max 32Gb model and I was pretty happy with it, I don't think 16gb make much sense for the max, you better off just getting a m4 instead for a couple hundred extra

Edit: I just realized this is the pro, not the max, definitely not a good deal, if it was the max it would be more reasonable

Got this model when it was first released for $2700. Still using it today and works perfectly well. Haven't seen a reason to upgrade yet.

Won't these be useless after you stop getting the OS updates? At least with the ones with intel processors you could install windows. With the M series I think no one should buy older versions.

No one knows, since they haven't stopped getting OS updates. And "useless" is a pretty wild word to be throwing around. It'll be a while before most major applications are no longer supported on them -- I still have a 2013 15" Macbook Pro that's still entirely usable today (within my use cases). So something that's roughly 4 years old isn't worth the snark of "no one should buy older versions".

Unless you really want bigger screen and better chassis, I'd suggest anyone considering this opt for an M4 based 15" MacBook Air or 14" MacBook Pro (or one of the deals we regularly see for an M3 Pro) instead. You'll spend a bit more, but you'll get a machine with a lot more life left in it (in terms of OS upgrades), that will be faster for most things (CPU and NPU in the M4 are faster, GPU is roughly equal but the M4 has newer features that the M1 Pro doesn't.)

I suppose it should be with very very low cycle count and 100% battery?

It's very likely this computer will stop receiving new OS upgrades starting next year. So spend your money wisely.

Can you please provide more info on that? Did you read it in somewhere or just your opinion?

Mail4asim is wrong. Apple announced that macOS 26 will be the last to support Intel Macs. That means M1 will at least be supported by macOS 27 which typically means 1 year of OS updates + 2 additional years of security updates. So M1 should be supported for at least 4 more years.
