I've had flip flops all across the price spectrum. My first 'expensive' flip flops were Rainbows for ~$50. They took almost a summer to break in, and were *very* uncomfortable for that period. But after that, they were the best flip flops I had (comfort-wise) up to that point. During the summer, I wear flip flops every day and walk at least 2 miles in them each day. Eventually, the soles wore out.
I have some friends who live in Hawaii and they talked about how they loved Olukai's, so I decided to give them a shot. I liked the Tuahine style, but they were $100, and i was thinking, man, $100 for a pair of flip flops????
I went to a local shoe store and tried them on. Whew, they were comfortable *and* supportive. Actually better than any regular shoe I own.
So I found them on sale for $70 and felt, what the heck, let's try them. For the amount of hours and days I spend wearing flip flops, and if they last for several years, the cost per wear is very, very low, even at that price.
This is my 3rd summer with them. They're amazing. The sole is like a hiking shoe - plenty of grip, and sewn on like a real shoe sole. The support is incredible. And they're waterproof leather. If I got the rainbow's wet, I could tell the leather did not like it at all.
With the Olukai's, I could soak the leather and somehow it doesn't matter at all. It's unaffected. They advertise them as waterproof, and they apparently mean it.
So, that's why. If for you, flip flops are beaters to wear around the house or the pool, then sure, $10 will do. But if you think of them as a real part of your wardrobe and a quality piece of footwear, then the price is more than justified.

An analogy: if the Lexus dealer had their cars for 40% off, would that be a good deal?
If you're a person who only cares about getting from A -> B and *nothing* else, then no. You'll be happy with a 1998 toyota corolla with wood benches for seats.

Have no idea exact model I have and looking at their site, cannot find it. Mine have a much thicker sole than what I am seeing but I have a feeling you want the $140 ones for real leather. I am sure they go on sale as well.
I still have my Olukai sandals that I bought in 2016. They are beaten to death, and still would be better than any $20 off the shelf sandal out there.
So, is $50 a good deal for sandals that can handle someone who wears them every day, is in/out of the ocean/rivers/lakes, rides quads on them in Costa Rica regularly, etc? Yea. I'd say so. Especially since I don't like Teva/Chaco style sandals yet being that I'm not a 70 year old gray hair. I'm still in my surfer bum 30's and Olukai is literally where function meets quality with style (for me at least.)

I love wearing flip flops, and wear them everyday for half the year. When I wear normal cheap flip I get feet pain due to the lack of arch support. OluKai provides really good arch support. Cheap flip flops also have terrible grip both on top and below the soles, these don't have that problem for me. They also last very long. I got my first pair of these 8 years ago and still have them. For the first 5 years, I have worn them regularly, and the last 3 are mainly something to slip on to take out the trash. That first pair is finally close to retirement. For me, $50 is a great value. If I spend $10 on a pair of cheap flip flops, my feet will hurt, might slip if the flip flops are wet, and will probably throw them out after a year. For $50, I get a good quality one, that lasts for almost a decade.
I don't want to spend $80 on these, so I wait for sales like this to stock up. To me very well worth $50. If you really like wearing flip flops, give them a try.

I bought $100 birkenstocks thinking the same. They lasted a year. And we're only okay comfort wise. Just another POV
