Is that a $30 bagel clamp?
I've always been confused by the role of these guillotine slicers—most store bought bagels are pre-sliced and many fresh bagels are too large to fit in the slicer. They ARE fun to use, but seem a little impractical for a supposedly $24 gadget (lots in the $15 range on Amazon).
If safety is a concern, a cheap wire napkin holder from the dollar store will hold your bagels upright while you slice them. And you can use it as a napkin holder when you're out of bagels.
