Google Voice is simply a free service where you have your own phone number that you give to everyone. It can run from a phone, tablet and/or computer. You can call and text from that number using only data, and nobody has any idea that it's not your actual phone. The "base number" is your cell phone's actual number that you wouldn't need to use at all, so it wouldn't matter if it changed.

I've done this for years because my employer provides me a cell phone but I wanted to keep my personal number separate. So I ported it to GV and have the best of both worlds using the same phone. If I leave this company, my GV number is unaffected. It also works great when in a foreign country because you only need a WiFi connection to use your GV service as if you were at home.

how long did you have to keep number in Tello to qualify as new customer for mint?
Just use a Google Voice number for everything, and the base phone number won't matter.

Just know that if you pass that data threshold, the service is unusable. I did speed tests and it was as slow as modem speeds.

I hit it last fall when I was streaming all our little league games (about 3-4 gb per game) ended up switching to Visible and never looked back

What happened to their claim that unlimited data is truly unlimited now?
Didn't they advertise that just a couple of months ago?
Previously it was a hard cap. Once you hit 40gb it went to dial up Internet speeds essentially and was unusable. Now you're only slowed down when the cell tower is very busy but should still be somewhat usable.

That was before. The policy has changed.

This just means your data gets lower priority over people around you. So if you're in a congested area then you will experience lower speeds.

They didn't lie, it's unlimited but just at a lower speed once you cross the 35gb threshold.

going on 1.5 yrs with US Mobile, signed up wife and I for 180 each (no other fees) for 1st year and kept us the same rate for 2nd year. Highly recommend US Mobile. We got free text and phone and no throttle back on data.

Sure. But don't these companies track IMEI? So for example if you used the promotion once and you tried again with the same phone, I'm assuming they will not honor the promotion.

Can you explain a bit further? How this process works and what do you mean by base number?

Port your actual number to google voice. Next, sign up with Mint and get a "new-to-you" number (base number) assigned. You can choose whether to forward from GV to the base number, or just use the Mint service for data with the GV app for voice and text. When the promotion is over - just get another new-to-you number and repeat.
