I've done this for years because my employer provides me a cell phone but I wanted to keep my personal number separate. So I ported it to GV and have the best of both worlds using the same phone. If I leave this company, my GV number is unaffected. It also works great when in a foreign country because you only need a WiFi connection to use your GV service as if you were at home.

If you're satisfied that's fine with me. But I'll maintain that it's a discretionary charge, like a restaurant surcharge for Covid-19, employee health and welfare, credit card fees, etc. Bogus is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.

1. Can you use hotspot on iPhone to connect other devices?
2. Is there international coverage (or over WiFi support)? Can you make calls in Canada/Mexico?
Then, after putting me on hold a 3rd time for almost 20min, he said the best we can do is tell you to join T-Mobile with their Mint customer discount. After transferring me to T-mobile rep Katisa, she said the best she could do is $60/mo.
So I called back eight times tonight and each time got disconnected before I could make it thru the prompts to get to a customer service agent. Then I chatted with them. Jay in their online chat didn't address my initial question, told me they had no discounts for me, and then gave me a "direct hotline" to Retentions that was a different number that goes to their same customer service system.
LOL WTF this is the worst customer service I've EVER seen.
