I don't understand how this could possibly work JUST like a real basketball. Can someone explain? Because all I can think of is it's just like a nerf ball and won't bounce the same as a real ball

Sounds like it's almost as bouncy as a regular basketball. The negative reviews are that it seems to almost disintegrate because it's literally just foam.

There's a big market for indoor silent basketballs. There's a lot more high quality ones that don't tear up like this one does but they do work and they're great for kids and adults

I've bought my son 2 of them, they bounce great! It's dense foam, have you never used a nerf ball, example football? When you throw it and hit's the ground.... It bounces... The only issue with these foam basketballs is they get crudded up with hair and dust (my son has cats). Some of the foam to begins to pill on the ball and then will start to shed making orange foam pieces everywhere. This isn't universal on all foam balls as that happened on our 1st ball, the 2nd has held up better. Gonna try this one as our current one is crudded up.

As a person who played basketball competitively in my youth...the "bounce" sound was part of my dribbling rhythm - I can't imagine playing without hearing it, would throw me off my game.
