I've always viewed laugh tracks as more of a tone setter, rather than an indicator of when to laugh. Think about it like a horror movie. Have you ever seen video clips of when people remove the creepy music from a scene in a horror film and insert happy music? It completely changes the tone and removes any sense of horror, regardless of whatever scary thing is on screen. Some shows need laugh tracks. A show like this would just be strange without one.

Too often I just start wondering whether I would have laughed at the joke without the stock-laughter, & most of the time the answer is 'no'. It's typically mid writing that needs a crutch.
