Thing is: each resort is a different island. Some islands are TINY. One island I stayed at took about 5 minutes to walk entirely around. So, depending on what you want, the island is probably more important than the room. I personally NEED a good house reef. Many of the islands with overwater bungalows don't have a decent house reef. That means you need to jump on a boat every time you want to snorkel or dive.
And reviews don't help. Most reviewers have been to only one island. So that means that they are comparing their one Maldives resort to the rest of the world, not to each other. If you've been to Hawaii, or the Carribean, or Thailand, or wherever, the best resorts in those areas are comparable to the worst resort in the Maldives. The Maldives always gets 5 stars. Unfortunately, how do you compare resorts when every resort has 4.7-5 stars? It all depends on just the personalities of the individual graders, not their experience or the individual quality of the resort.
I've stayed on the 7 or 8 resorts in the past 40 years. Unfortunately, I can't recommend any because they've all changed so much in the last 20 years and I haven't even been to the Maldives in the last 15.
If you can afford to go, it's the most amazing place on the planet - I haven't visited Tahiti or Fiji (those might be the only competition). It's better than anywhere in SE Asia, Australia, Red Sea, Hawaii, Carribean, Mediterranean, and Philippines. (Haven't visited Seychelles which I hear might be pretty good too).

In all seriousness though--I'm a huge fan of the Caribbean. Coming from the U.S., the flights are about 5 hours total for either coast. Some of the places speak English and use U.S. dollars for currency. The water's really warm because it tends to be shallow. And lastly, it's a lot cheaper.
I'd love to go the the Maldives sometime, but I'll be going to Singapore, Cairo, or Kolkata the same trip.

Many used to ask Israel to stamp a separate paper inserted into their passport to show their arrival and then remove it after.

It's called Blue Bay Beach and Golf Resort and we booked a luxury private villa. We wanted a dishwasher and full kitchen due to having a child. We even got a washer and dryer in this 2500 sqft villa.
Food is whatever you make or go out to eat slightly cheaper than US prices in general. Cons are a 5 minute walk to the beach (we drive because it's hilly and it's literally 30 seconds that way) if you want a villa, smaller apartments are right on the beach, and they only clean once every 4 days.
Rented a Ford Edge for about 400/week.
Direct book site is bluebay-curacao.com. We have the private villa ($500 on there but varies with season + more like 600 with fees).
Oh and you know it's made for the Dutch when the rooms have 15 ft ceilings and even the bathrooms have 10ft ceilings.
