This should perform like RTX 4060 laptop. RTX 5050 laptops use faster, more efficient GDDR7. Desktop RTX 5050 cards uses slower, cheaper GDDR6. This is the rare situation where a laptop GPU is faster than the same otherwise identical desktop GPU at the same TDP thanks to GDDR7. In other words RTX 5050 is good for laptops but bad for desktops.

These 5050 deals that keep getting posted close to $800 or more don't seem so great to me tbh

Waaaaay overpriced 3060/4060/5060 laptops usually float around $799. This is a much weaker GPU that should be floating around $500. This is too much even accounting for inflation and tariffs.
