No, they are not. The commenter said 5080 with an OLED. The one you have linked is the price with a much inferior 1200p IPS display, half the RAM and half the storage. If you compared the prices of this with that Omen upgraded to OLED, 32GB RAM, and 1TB SSD, it would come to be $1800. Not to mention, again, that is a 16" and this is an 18", two totally different beasts and stupid to be compared to each other. This has better thermals due to a bigger chassis and better ventilation and also has a bigger battery (although battery life might be similar or better due to 255HX being more efficient). This is meant to be a complete desktop replacement, while the Omen can be carried if needed to.

I have the 4090 version, it plays everything I throw at it on max settings. Stays cool, but I do use a top of the line cooling pad as well. Acer refurbished off ebay comes with full 2 year warranty and they do stand behind it. I had a problem right after I got mine and they FedEx me a new one in 2 days. Plus they refunded me $40, but I have no idea why they gave me 40 bucks, lol?? Maybe cause I had to wait 2 days for a replacement? Anyway, the refurbished unit looked brand new, even gave me a carrying case for it and the replacement also got a 2 year full warranty. Been 7 months playing on it everyday and it is amazing. I play World of Warcraft, Diablo, No Man's Sky, a warship game, and some 1st person shooters. I max everything out and it's smooth as butter. The 1000 nit screen is so amazingly bright. I actually have to turn it down or it hurts your eyes. I also use a Blackshark headset, but sometimes I play with my Bose QC Ultra headphones, using a BT-W6 audio adapter that enhances game sounds to an epic level.

I paid 1800 for mine, so this is a good deal. There is a guy on YouTube that did a test on all the 18 inch laptops and this one was at the top in a lot of categories.

The 5080 HP deal with OLED blows this out of the water no?
Obviously not time machine. But it feels a little bit late to be buying a 4080 laptop.

Not sure how a laptop with a recalled cpu that has issues thermal throttling gpu can be advertised from EBay used and refurbished for $1564 + tax . The 5070ti has same performance using less wattage running much more stable. Best Buy has it for about $1800 with faster ram / cpu. Plus the new 50 series has AI rendering with better upscale dlss performance.

Which hp are you referring to? The one for $700 more with a 16" screen?

It's 15% difference at most currently. Should go up to 20% after optimization from data. Not a huge noticeable difference for modern gaming.

Don't be fooled into buying outdated 2 1-2 yr old technology that's been repaired. Not just repaired but enough to create a refurbished in large quantities. The chances are you will have more problems if you buy this.

Recalled CPU? Are you thinking of the desktop variants, afaik there were no issues in the laptop 14th gen because it's a totally different chipset.

Intel HX CPUs are essentially desktop CPUs with a lower power limit. Multiple laptop manufacturers released BIOS/UEFI updates which included the Intel microcode fix last year. It may be worth checking to see if Acer issued a UEFI update for this laptop which includes the fix. The danger is that since this laptop is used, it may already have some CPU damage. If you update the UEFI immediately, then run some stress tests, and it doesn't crash, then you're probably good. If it isn't stable, return it.

The HP Omen 16gb 5080 $1500 is better GOAT flash deal but it only comes on sale once or twice a year, sold out in 24-48 hrs. very low stock

Acer 4080 12gb $1500 and 4090 16gb $1900 are easy to get, lots of units available for weeks, months

the real question are you willing to wait 6-12 months in hope of a hall of fame deal by Dr. W with extremely small buying window 😂

the 13th and 14th gen Intel HX, Desktop need microcode update to avoid over voltage. Intel was caught trying to game their cpu.

the H series and U series, 15th gen aren't affected as they have built in safe guards and no over voltage
