I've had this chair for years now, since the beginning of COVID. They had to replace the base and the upright hydraulic cylinder because both broke. So not the best chair, but they did send me new parts and all has been well since.

It is comfy and the mesh is more durable than I thought it would be.

I've had this for 5 years. Like the other comment, my star base cracked. Staples sent a replacement part with fast shipping without any fuss. 7 year warranty. Don't expect this to last you a lifetime but it's a decent option to hold you over until the right SlickDeal on a premium chair.

Bro, please don't. AI didn't tell us anything of value.

Hey! The base on mine broke just like those other two guys!
I called the number and they shipped me a replacement base and cylinder right away at no cost.
I couldn't get the arms to be comfortable for me while typing so I removed them.
Otherwise a pretty decent chair.

I have a free office mesh chair i got free from amazon few years back, looks very similar to this but doesn't let you lean back, thinking about getting this since the office brand name chairs cost 5x the price and that's for refurb, i assume this is as close to a hm aeron or a high end office chair as its gonna get or should i wait?

I see Staples has an offer for "$10 in points
for every $50 you spend. (In Store Only)" Does anyone know how quickly those show up? Like if went and bought one of these in store, could I then get $20 off another one, then return the first one?

Frankly, you're best off asking AI these questions. I had never heard of this problem as I suspect it's not as commonly aware medical condition compared to others out there (i.e. 'back problems'). Here's the AI response:

While the Staples Dexley is a popular ergonomic chair with a mesh seat, it is unlikely to be ideal for someone with a pilonidal cyst problem due to the lack of a specific coccyx cutout. The potential for mesh sagging could also be an issue. For true relief, chairs specifically designed for tailbone pain with a cutout are much more recommended, or at the very least, using a dedicated coccyx cushion with a suitable chair.
Telling someone to ask AI instead of on a forum where they would get better responses for what they are looking for, we are witnessing the downfall of humanity in real time.

These chairs are horrible!
See the way the seat rises in the middle from front to back?
That becomes a hot spot after awhile.
Added to that is that the outer edges curve-up and outer hips start top hurt.
You can see the curves in photos but when sitting the chair sinks and all the hot spots get worse
I had a Amazon model like this (there are many) and threw it out after a few months of torture.
A 12 yr old kid might be ok with this but an adults (especially if heavy) can suffer after sitting an hour or so

I use a cushion on mine, the one with a circle hole cut in the back. This cushion migrated from the old chair to this new one. Wondering if you had any extra support or just using the plain chair seat. For further context, i don't sit too long, at most an hour or 2 at a time, then stand up the desk. Those who sit all day, you're probably right that is isn't going to be the best option, but a good one at this price point.
next time you comment like you did, add the information that you left out as it was most important as you are not using the car as is. How do you not see that?

The Hyken is a far better chair than this one. Dexley's recline function is the same as the shitty 30-40 dollar Walmart specials (not independent of the back, unlike the Hyken which also can lock into 3 positions). Get the Hyken or look around on FB market place for a refurb Leap V2 or Amia from Steelcase).

I have this chair and a jacked up tailbone. Sadly, I'm sitting on folded towel as the mesh is better than most office chairs but still creates enough pressure that after 3 or more hours I'm in pain. I got the staples 'if you don't like it warranty' so when i find a better sitting chair I'll use whatever it is warranty to replace this. That said I've used it for about a year with this stupid towel and could probably keep living this way if needed.

Whenever I lean back on mine or shift my weight to the side there is a loud pop or cracking sound at the base of the chair. It so loud it wakes my wife up at night
My previous chair did that (some Herman Miller thing) this replaced that. Then this Dexley started doing that cracking noise, just needed to be tightened back up. I'm not a fan.

Bought this (or something VERY similar) last time it came around. Seems well made, goes together easily, is comfortable.

The only complaint I have is that the armrests don't go low enough if you're using a mouse below the level of your desk (like with a keyboard/mouse combo that is underslung on the desk). That is annoying.

Agreed. The current blind trust in mostly deranged and inaccurate AI is going to be the downfall of civilization. It's not like we weren't dumb enough already - now we're just turning our brains off as some AI models have done destructive things. Current (as of last week) debacle is a 'very exclusive expensive high end system' deleting some big company's entire database of everything, then hiding that it did that and lying about it.

It has been repeatedly shown that if AI can't find the answer, or is not in the mood (yes, really, IN THE MOOD) to give an accurate answer, it simply lies and makes shit up. I very reluctantly use it on Amazon on occasion to sift through reviews looking for key phrases, but even there I'm very skeptical.

Most AI is complete trash except for Elon's - Elon's FratBro/Nazi AI 1.0 version needs to be beaten to a pulp then repeatedly run over with a Tesla that's on fire. The 'Nazi' part is self-confessed by the AI itself, not something I made up. It self identifies as a Nazi when asked.

Same here. It was insane how hard it was to get the busted hydraulic cylinder off. My channel locks wouldn't do it... I had to borrow a pipe wrench.

Did you use a silicone spray like Blast to loosen the nuts/screws? Stuff has never failed me.
