I was wondering that as well. Perhaps a home server hosting a local LLM, home assistant, and frigate? There are cheaper options for a DIY router; you don't need oculink for that.

How would the thermals be on such a small PC? I'm sure it helps having the PC be located in a separate enclosure but in this form factor is the CPU fan just pegged at 100% and still hot? I suppose as a home server it would be very efficient.

Sort of the Ryzen AI chips in general are a bit expensive rn. Esp Strix Halo, but GMKtec is notoriously more exp than the other brands like Minisforum and beelink

Acemgic sub-brand which has mini-pcs found to have unremovable malware even after a reformat and bios flash. Avoid

Thermals in these are surprisingly well done. It's important to remember these are mobile chips, and are a lot of the times dropped into laptop chassis, so the power draw is most of the time a lot lower than your typical desktop chip. That, combined with having a little bit more room to breathe (than a laptop chassis, at least) means that you don't have to worry. Hope that answers your question.

One use case would be to run proxmox on it and be able to pass through whatever you have plugged into oculink to the vm. so you could have different vms that you pass the card to depending on what you're doing, for instance a gaming machine using the oculink directly also using the hdmi out directly or for game streaming, and a local llm machine using the oculink directly, and another vm using the card for who know what - maybe rendering video. in this scenario they couldn't all use the same card at the same time, but you'd gain the flexibility of being able to use the card natively within each vm

Why would the fan be pegged at 100%? Realistically you are not going to have a workload that taxes the CPU at 100% 24/7.
