Unfortunately the replacement hotends are, and have always been, on preorder, and the nozzles are not even sold. There are 3rd party offerings on Amazon, but they aren't cheap. Other printer parts aren't available anywhere, notably the original build plates.

You can use Bambu plates you just have to line it up with the front of the plate instead of the back. It's a hair smaller but I've had no issues doing this.

I just ordered this as my very first 3D printer. Also got a roll of PETG filament with it. Where do you all 3D experts order your filaments from? Secondly, do I really need the filament dryer? Thanks in advance for any info.
A filament dryer really depends on where you live and/or what you will be printing. If you are just printing PLA, you generally will not need a dryer unless you live in a very humid area. PETG absorbs moisture quicker and even in my dryer climate, I dry it prior to printing and store it in air tight containers when not in use. If you will be printing with TPU, you absolutely need a dryer and nylon filaments as well (but I would not suggest printing nylon until you get more accustomed to printing). You absolutely don't want moisture in your filaments... At best the print won't come out so well but you will likely have bigger issues than a not pretty print.

There are many companies that make good filaments. Dealwise, keep an eye out for Sunlu or Jayo 4kg bundles that pop up on SD frequently. I personally mostly buy Elegoo as it is from the best of the budget filaments, but is a little more expensive than Sunlu. Kingroon also will generally print well and is usually from the cheapest if buying a larger bundle, but it's a few tiers below the other aforementioned brands. There are other brands that make excellent filament like Polymaker, but the price generally jumps significantly and in my opinion, it's not better than Elegoo. This is just my personal opinion, but I'm basing it on currently having about 250 rolls of filament (yes, I have a problem lol).

As a newbie, what deal do you suggest as a 'starter' set of filament's? How many to stock up on? I'm seeing Elegoo have PLA and PLA+ available.

Also any other accessories that we should purchase? My son and I are planning on having some creative fun with the CC…

Starting with PLA+ or PLA is a good choice. If the rolls are within a couple dollars of each other, my preference is Elegoo PLA+. Both will print great on the Centauri with their bult in profiles in the slicer. As far as how much, that is a personal choice depending on how much you will go through and how quickly. At this point, I'm buying rolls by 4kg-10kg bundles unless I need a roll of a specific color (It gets addictive and I have way too much filament lol). PETG is also pretty easy to print with (more likely you would need a dryer with PETG), but I would start with one of the PLA's you mentioned that are available.

You really don't need anything else to get started and there are many printable enhancements on Printable or Makerworld. I always like to have a spare hot end on hand just in case. I'm still on my original and well over 1k hours printed on mine and you should be okay for a while unless something goes very wrong. As you go a long you will find more things that you may want to add to your accessories, but you'll be fine with whatever comes with the CC and a few rolls of filament to get you up and running.

It's a really fun hobby. Good luck!

How does this compare to the FlashForge AD5M Pro? Both are enclosed, but the FF has built-in HEPA filter. I don't print heavily, but when I do, I do it in my bedroom. I know the CC has a 320c hotend with a hardened brass tip (whatever that means) and the FF has a hardened steel tip that goes up to 270c, I don't print in crazy exotic engineering plastic, I think ASA is the most I ever do.

Do you ever have to connect to the internet to use The Centauri Carbon?
I'm looking for a printer where I can print from USB stick and preserve privacy.
The privacy issues surrounding Bambu has deterred me from buying their product.

You can print directly from USB.
For wifi you can turn it on (or not) to get firmware updates or to connect to send files directly via the local network.
Remote access (if you want it) currently requires setting up Octoanywhere on a Raspberry Pi.

For the printer? Have you checked with them. I ordered mine last month and it'll be here tomorrow.
I ordered two days ago and it'll be there today! You should cancel that order and buy again with the discounts talked about earlier.

I've been going back and forth between these two, researching reviews (looking for my first printer). Prices are the same currently. I'm leaning toward CC, just in a future-proof sense since it is slightly larger and possibility of adding multi-color later. yes, the 5M has HEPA but you can find ways to vent the CC outside
