looking at the reviews on Amazon it looks like the app may not work on newer versions of Android. Tread carefully

Can I use these as wired extenders, to replace some older routers?

what does ax7800 even mean? i see all these router brands using "ax" and "be" plus a number. I thought it was a model number but all manufactures are using it.

It has to do with the band they use. Ask chatGPT

Does anyone know how many watts it consumes at idle? I can't find anything online. I'm not dying to upgrade if it consumes much more power than my current setup.

AX is the type of Wifi standard level it is using, a short form of the technical standard number for the Wifi protocol it uses. This got confusing so they started using numbers "Wifi 6".

802.11b
802.11a
802.11g
802.11n
802.11ac -> Wifi 5
802.11ax -> Wifi 6
802.11axe -> Wifi 6e (Wifi 6 + 6Ghz band)
802.11be -> Wifi 7

So these are Wifi 6, like 1.5 steps back from the very latest Wifi 7.

The "7800" number is kinda made up, it's the theoretical max bandwidth that the wifi can get over all the various frequency ranges (2.4+5.8 Ghz) added up. In most cases, you could never get all 7800Mbps in real usage.

Then you're just not a good IT Eng. Plenty of people got it to work, including myself. I installed it for a friend in under 30 mins. Could've been faster if it wasn't for some app glitches. Not perfect, but still works once it's setup.

Maybe you are too relaxed of an IT eng.

I got the Arris Surfboard Pro at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Since then, the app has been updated so many times but i could never get the app to re-recognize the devices. I reached out to their support team on this and they asked me to reset both devices, which i did. That did nothing at all. I still can't get the app to re-recognize the devices.
Anyone else go through something like this and have a fix for it?
