I've had a couple kitchen aid can openers. The first one lasted me around 15 years. It was great quality and built like a tank. Unfortunately, some of the teeth stripped, making it unusable.
They replaced it under warranty, which was an easy process.
Unfortunately, the replacement was a subpar build quality. Just the weight of the materials was noticeably different and lacked the quality feel of my previous one. It worked okay for about 2 years, with fairly minimal use, and now it's just a hassle. It slips, skips, and is not effective. I bought a cheap one that cuts around the sides, which I think works amazing. It opens easily, leaves no sharp edges, and I can place the lid back on the can.
So, while I do like kitchen aids lifetime warranty, I find their recent products to not live up to their past build quality. Id rather buy a new, no name brand side opener over this one. Just my 2¢

It's Amazon, you either need prime or spend $35+ to get free shipping. Always has been.

i feel like can openers are one of those things where an expensive purchase is worth it because it lasts longer. mine broke recently after 2 years. anyone have any suggestions?

I have had this one for many years, works as good as the day I got it. If this is the one you had and it broke, I would say it was a fluke, these are solid.

I like this one for $10 with no sharp edges and the knife doesn't seem to touch the contents:

(Edit: it doesn't open bottles though)

Me too... got one to try out and after a short learning curve prefer this one over the two-handle one. This creates a perfect can lid too!

I like the older oxo ones. They have a newer model now that's less expensive but haven't tried it.

Thanks for this. I wondered if it was just a name now and you saved me the trouble of returning it

Can confirm. Bought one of these 2 years ago. It was a cute blue color. It lasted less than one month. Amazon wouldn't take it back as it was just past the return date. Did not know about a Kitchen Aid lifetime warranty. Replaced it with a Swing-A-Way. That one is still going strong and works like new.

You want Ez-duz-it. Doesn't look fancy, but they are the best and still built like a tank.

Just buy a EZ-DUZ-IT and be done with it.
