You posted this twice. I'll reiterate: 8gb ram/256gb ssd, put in title instead of "laptop computer". MacBook Air is assumed to be a laptop computer.

I would rather not buy a laptop than buy a laptop with 8GB ram in 2025. Certainly if the transaction involves giving up $650 of my own money.
If you're dead set on spending exactly $650 on a MacBook, get a refurbished one from a refurb site with at least 16GB ram. That way even though it isn't new from the factory, at least it has enough RAM to provide more longevity.
