Link is for reference only. I was at my local Staples and they had two of these locked up in a clear case in the computers area (not with the rest of the iPads), they were sealed with clearance stickers on them.

If you sign up for Staples rewards (free) you can activate an offer for $10 in rewards for every $50 spent + stack another offer of 2 points per $1 spent on technology, which gave me a total of $48 in rewards.

Did I crap on your "deal" (which, to be honest, is as you stated also highly YMMV)? I merely stated a great deal that I was lucky to get and did I NOWHERE say this precious deal of yours wasn't a deal. Good thing you barely post anymore -- your attitude sucks.
Ok so you came in here to gloat about the deal you scored that not everyone was eligible to get, nor is even an option anymore. How is that helpful? Why did you even comment if it wasn't to brag?

People gloat all the time about great deals they got. You're not new here, so did you just wake up in a bad mood today?
That is very true. Touché.

Congrats on your deal, I saw a lot of people had their ordered cancelled in that thread. I'm actually returning this iPad as it's really not much of an upgrade for me from my Air 4, since I'm not a power user and I never fill up my storage anyways.

Just received my $299 iPad Air M2 256GB from the Follett Academic deal a couple weeks ago (along with my free Apple Pencil Pro from the Back to School promo). Can't beat that deal!https://slickdeals.net/f/18462724-select-academic-institution-affiliates-128gb-11-apple-ipad-air-m2-wi-fi-tablet-249-50-8-shipping?utm_term=2189274&utm_medium=share&utm_campaign=ddp-simplified-sharing&utm_source=desktop_redesign&utm_content=dealThe Staples item in the link is an M3 model, not an M2 model.
I got super lucky on that deal as well. First I ordered the 128GB with overnight shipping and it got canceled. I saw someone mention the 256GB was only $50 more so I ordered it but accidentally got standard shipping instead of overnight. I was 100% sure it was going to get canceled so I was ecstatic to see that it shipped.
As far as new iPads go, that was probably a once in a lifetime deal, especially with the free Pencil Pro. I wish everyone that ordered had gotten theirs but it seems like it just came down to orders exceeding inventory on the base model (that most people ordered) and luck.

I got the M2 Air display unit for $250 last month. It had 100% battery life 😮

I called as the closest store with (supposedly) 2 in stock was 66 miles away; and was showing available for in-store pickup. The employee checked and said that they were sold out.

It's always kind of a catch-22 when you call. I remember in some past threads, there have been reports of employees receiving a call like that and then seeing that the price was really low and a prime re-sell opportunity or they just want it themself, so they'd say "sorry, it's out of stock" but then immediately purchase it themselves or tuck it aside for a friend or family member to purchase.

Obviously, there can also be instances where they're telling the truth and it's really out of stock, but you never really know. So that's why one of the commonly quoted "rules of SlickDeals" is that you don't call to check about really good deals. I mean obviously you can do it, but it could potentially sabotage the deal if a somewhat shady employee notices the low price and decides they want it themselves.

I thought about that - but I wasn't going to drive the 66 miles not knowing. So net-net. Thanks.

Yeah, I agree that it doesn't make sense to drive that far just to find out. It's all about the risk / reward … I'll usually try to avoid calling for places nearby, but it's probably the only realistic option in that case.
