This is a professional grade controller, was $200+ a month ago but is 20%+ off for Smart Irrigation Month (which is apparently July):

It has an outdoor enclosure and supports 4 zones by default, but is expandable to up to 23 zones with 3 zone (PCM-300 [hunterirrigation.com]), 9 zone (PCM-900 [hunterirrigation.com]) and 16 zone (PCM-1600 [hunterirrigation.com]) expansion modules. Since it's modular, you can also replace parts like the transformer, main module, ribbon cable, etc. instead of replacing the entire unit.

I bought the unit at Sprinkler Warehouse and 3 and 9 zone modules on ebay to get a 16 zone controller for ~$260, which is pretty competitive with the Rachio Pro 3 unit:

Thank you. Why did you prefer this over the Rachio if it is multiple modules/boxes, slightly more money? More professional grade?

I did a lot of research and there were a few main reasons:
-Hunter was more ruggedly built than Rachio and includes an outdoor enclosure.
-Pros in r/irrigation seem to really like them
-Modular design, installing modules for extra zones is simple:
https://support.hydrawise.com/hc/...on-Modules
-Includes high/low current detection to identify bad solenoids/wiring issues for free, while this is a Rachio paid feature.
-I was able to configure my zones and programs in the app/www.hydrawise.com before my hardware even arrived. I simply had to scan the serial number (the MAC address) in the app to assign my new controller to my account. I plugged it in, connected the wires for each zone and it just worked.

for that price just get a 16 channel rachio. Had mine for years and they still warranty replace parts for it for free (power adapter).

I've already had my first overcurrent alert with the new Hunter controller, which is one of the reasons I chose it. FWIW, you have to pay extra for this feature on the Rachio.
This is the third solenoid I've had go bad in the past couple of years, which isn't really a surprise since they were old square Weathermatic M24E solenoids installed in 1999.

Nope, I replaced the original square Weathermatic M24E solenoids with round Weathermatic S20PSA ones harvested from my stash of spare Silver Bullet valves.

The controller is a Hunter though.
