Motion detection or individual identification? Wyze provides app notifications and short video clips of the motion directly to your phone without any subscription.

Great deal but products from wyze just aren't the same anymore. Requires subscription for even basic person detection. Go with other brands like tapo, eufy or reolink. Eufy now has an NVR system that doesn't rely on wifi.

Yes, most cameras offer motion detection. The issue is most people don't want to be alerted for every leaf that falls or if an animal crosses or a shadow moves. All i need is if a person was detected which i currently have on my grandfathered Wyze cameras. On the new ones, person detection is not available until you pay for subscription.

I mean just turn the sensitivity down. That's what I do with mine. I have 8 cameras.

I had a full Wyze setup...switched to Tapo C720's and C120's for perimeter, and never looked back. I'm also an IT nerd and have a Scrypted VM running to integrate them with Homekit. I can't tell you how much I despise Wyze.

They updated the firmware and kept users like me from integrating them into their own system (Scrytped/HA, etc.). That said, it might be good for the avg. user, if you're not expecting much.

I've done that to prevent false person detection. But once my v3 cameras go out i will be switching to a different company that doesn't charge subscription fee for person detection.

I hate to say it but Wyze should've failed and went bankrupt when they were on the brink of doing so a couple years ago. The only "value" they added was to create a BS subscription model that actually reduces the value of the up front hardware cost (by removing otherwise included features) and simply charging for them under their subscription model. I've owned nearly 25 of their cams over the years at multiple locations and various network configs and NONE of them are reliable. Other comparable (now MORE value) cameras are far better (Tapo for example gives you included AI detection).

I personally upgraded everything and went for a hybrid setup of mostly Tapo and Unifi where it counts. But for your money, skip over Wyze and get Tapo or Reolink. Even Eufy is probably better value at this point.

Wyze has historically been "blitz the market first… think later!" Which worked for their cams when only Ring was available and only as a doorbell. They were the only "fully wireless" brand at a cheap price. Everything else was long AV cords or expensive setups. They in today's market no longer provide ANY value. All of their products have subpar reviews and they're relying on hardware made by Chinese companies. And no, it's not that Chinese made is an issue, since the other manufacturers use overseas factories, but Wyze doesn't MAKE or design anything… they're literally buying ANOTHER companies cameras and rebranding them with some quesionable redone buggy firmware. Stay away

So I want to get rid of my ring system just went from &106 to a BS $249 for subscribers. Self monitoring does not have great features and no recoding back play. I'm assuming Wyze subscription is about the same price. I'm not familiar with the other systems like Tapo but I need to look into it if it has playback and if changing out equipment will offset ring subscription.

Great points….and super accurate. I own 10 and have been considering moving along to another company. We also use ring and reluctantly pay the full subscription for monitoring. Any good options that fall under the Wyze price tag? There have been times where two 2.5k cam are like $40.

Purchased this last week. Works well but integration with Home Assistance is not great. It works with the small camera just fine but not the floodlight cam.

Wyze can be used with or without sub. I have 10+ devices and no subscription.

All wyze cams support sound or motion detection for free. Viewing live feeds on the app is free. To see recordings on modern cameras you'll want to install a micro SD in each.

Some older cameras like the v3 will upload 12s clips to the cloud for free, but that's limited to older stuff.

Subscription is $100/year for all devices. That unlocks Ai bs, various detection settings, and cloud clips for all devices.

Wyze is a closed environment like someone already said. You use the wyze app and if anything happens to wyze your stuff is trashed.

That said, I'm overall plenty happy with all my cheap devices and never having paid a sub. I have 10+ cameras, 6 lights, a scale, a leak detection pack, a home security starter set (was 30 on clearance, only use the home base), flood light, several indoor plugs, 2 outdoor plugs, garage door opener, 2 doorbells, and some other stuff I can't remember.

Be aware of buying wyze. I used to really like their product. But I only found out recently that you can only view live video for 7 seconds. Then there is a 5 minutes cool down before you can view another 7 seconds. If this works for you, sure, if not, look elsewhere.
