Or buy from Best Buy with a chase card that includes an added year of warranty. Although Macs very rarely break.

How do you figure Best Buy is more "local" than Amazon? If you're arguing local employment numbers, the Amazon distribution center down the road from me employs far, far more people than our local Best Buy. Doesn't seem fair to judge them on different criteria.

No. This has been answered already in the thread. A MacBook Air only has an 8‑core GPU. macmini has a 10-core GPU. A macmini also has better cooling so it can have higher performance for longer without throttling. No point getting a MacBook if you are going to use it at one desk 95+% of the time.

Also, you can upgrade the SSD by purchasing 3rd party internal SSDs, or just use external SSD if you are not moving around much with mini.
