You're better off getting the 7840hs when it goes on sale. I got the one with 32gb and 1T for the same price about a month ago

I would NOT recommend buying anything from this company. I've had multiple units fail and their customer service is AWFUL. Finally just got my money back from Amazon. Not worth it.

You can get the GMKTec M7 for around $40 less when its on sale with similar stats (smaller SSD, however). But you do gain an oculink port.

In this example. Because the 9 is an older processor (older architecture, Running older internal graphics.

Point of reference: got the UM690 refurb from them back in Feb for $231 shipped (AMD Ryzen™ 9 6900HX (UM690) / 16GB RAM+512GB SSD / US) (it was posted here on SD). It's a great all around emulation box in my full size arcade cabinet. Great switch emulation too.

I vaguely remember that, they were sold out perhaps or I guess I figured 16/512 was plenty for my purposes (which it is/was) of emulation. I have all my roms on a separate drive.

Will also add rec for the M7 (and M7 Pro). While it uses an older generation Zen3+ CPU, the 6850H CPU (or 6950H for the M7 Pro) is a mobile workstation CPU, so it has enough bandwidth not only for OcuLink but also two NVME slots, two USB4 ports, two 2.5Gbe ports, two USB3.2 Gen 2 ports, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.0, plus 2 USB 2 ports for peripherals.

I got a barebones M7 for $262 after tax during an AliExpress sale with 18% cashback ($38). Minus an extra $20 due to the Trump Tax.

Worth noting that the UM690L does NOT seem to have upgradeable RAM, looks like the RAM is soldered to the board. Kind of confusing as the UM690 Slim DOES have RAM slots, but the UM690L Slim does not. So the 32gb version might be the way to go if you're planning to use it for a while.

FWIW my UM690S (kind of annoying that they have so many versions of the 690) with the same 6900HX was able to run Fallen Order, Forza, and Horizon Zero Dawn pretty well on medium settings at 1080p. You probably won't be playing Assassin's Creed at 4k but it does pretty well for what it is.

Not sure what Wifi card comes in the UM690L but the ones in the 690S are pretty bad, if you need wifi or bluetooth might want to also budget for replacing it.

Question for people who have bought this or similar:Anyone have issues with sleep mode and the display not responding? I bought the um690s which has about the same specs as this and it has some kind of bug waking from sleep. This is despite a reformat, scouring the BIOS, and trying hdmi and the DisplayPort over usb4. It's a good machine otherwise. It's possible it's some kind of niche incompatibility with my monitor (u2724d) or dock (caldigit ts3+) and I've tried the monitor independently. Zero issues with either with a razor blade 15 or MacBook Pro 14. Can't figure it out!
