i have one of these. it's handy for when im doing a 2 camera shoot in the field and theres no room or budget to bring a production switcher. takes a few seconds to switch between sources, but it beats swapping cables

A random internet search disagrees with your definition of what is a HDMI "switch".

"HDMI Matrix Switches: These switches offer more flexibility by allowing you to route multiple input sources to multiple outputs. For example, a 2x2 matrix switch could connect two input devices to two different displays"

https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Bi-...gQT=1&th=1

https://www.walmart.com/ip/4K-HDM...de=1&gQT=1
thats why they are called "bi directional". not all those switches can do. dont lost us with the 2 x 2. they are diff beasts. they need the switch to route the signal. the one listed doesnt.

Does this automatically switch if only one feed is sending a signal or only on the button press?

Perfect. Need one of these also.

Want to run the Xbox series x to a local tv or to my near by game room without having to physically move the console. Hopefully this works.

Yea. I have two different name models (Gana and Sabrent) just like these 2-in-1 devices and they let me switch from either PlayStation. I have a PS3 and PS4. I don't have a PS5.
I got those 3 port pigtail HDMI switches and 5 port pigtail HDMI switches and that doesn't work with the PS4 but works with the PS3. I think it is bit under powering for the PS4 but the 2-in-1 devices have more power so it works great. No flickering. Great connection.

I have this and it works well – am using it as a poor man's KVM (which means clicking buttons to switch devices on both my mouse and keyboard too). 🤣

Trying to think of a use case for this. Only one I can think of is if you are using a monitor that only has 1 HDMI port but you have several devices. Tv's normally have 2 or 3 making that almost useless.

Common use-case is monitor with 2 devices, usually work/personal or personal/server or other combos. Monitors tend to cheap out on HDMI ports in favor of Displayport, but pretty much all external laptop outputs are HDMI if your USB-C is occupied.

Traveling with multiple sources for a hotel TV.... incoming hotel cable, streaming box, laptop, ipad with C to HDMI output. Hotel TVs typically have only a single input. PITA if you have to keep switching cables during an extended stay.

According to the instruction manual, you can use this a a switch (2 in, 1 out) or a splitter (1 in, 2 out): https://m.media-amazon.com/images...3vDeDL.pdf [media-amazon.com] go to "Use your product"
still a switch either way - up or down. AMZ suggested same product diff brand for $7.99 " these "deals" showing up on SD FP are pretty blatant ads considering price on this hasn't changed.
