Would the processor be adequate to run basic MS excel, word, ppt tasks? The OLED screen seems better than most HP laptop screens...

Comparing this to the BBY deal on the Asus for $550 last month, you get a bigger SSD at 1TB on the HP and $50 cheaper.

Oled + CoPilot+ for under $500. Looks like a good deal.

The processor is more than adequate for that. However, this is an ARM processor, so a lot of other Windows software won't run on it. Other software will run under emulation, which means it will be slow and eat lots of battery. See here for a list of programs: https://windowsonarm.org/

I love seeing these overpriced snapdragon Windows computers crash in price because nobody wants them.

Listing copilot as a distinguished feature? Bold.

They should have just focused on Chromebooks with the Snapdragon chipset.

Qualcomm said shortly after they started rolling these out to investors that these chips will dominate the pc market something like over 50% forecasted by I think 2030 lol

Still this is a nice deal. Omnibooks are fantastic even this low tier 5. I have an X and Ultra they are 🔥

I had an x Plus and my wife has an x elite. Imo if you're going to try arm, try the x elite. The x plus has some frustrating lag. It wasn't bad, but clicked or typed inputs would sometimes be just laggy enough to be annoying. Never ran into that with my wife's x elite though.
But also with the second gen ultra x86 processors, the battery discrepancy may not even be worth dealing with ARM at all.
Still a good deal at this price, but I'd look to spend a tinch more on the elite knowing what I know now

These arm based cpus with windows are not the right match, stick to amd or intel based laptops.

I would love to have some powerful arm machines that can pair with Linux.
Right now the MacBook airs are so cheap that it's hard to consider these. The M1 airs are still far better machines IMHO.

not a mac fan, but new ipad/mba hardware are pretty good. Best for basic chores and some pro work if you already knows mac.

On the other hand, majority people do not grow up using mac, and all new AMD/Intel offerings are decent enough. mba-m4 is $799. Similar priced windows laptops will still have more storage/memory.

Overall, I do not think the price-cut in mba will win many windows converts.

Last year qcom is very ambitious in unseating AMD/Intel in the PC market, now they are sobering up. Given the high returns and large price cuts, I am not sure qcom actually made any money by entering PC market.

It's not just the processor, it's the complete package from memory bandwidth and everything that falls under the unified memory architecture.
