A traditional setup will be better. Soundbars are useful for rooms you don't want to have a speaker setup in. Home theater? Speakers. Living room that you use for multiple things, including watching TV? Sound bar.

I bought this soundbar the last time it dropped to $700 and recommend it at this price. My toddler loves going after wires and outlets to test us and these are mostly wireless but great sounding surround speakers.

if you have a Samsung phone open the Samsung wallet and open a checking account with the Sofi money. I think just requires transferring a few dollars to it, but once you get it done it will allow you Samsung Savings Program similar to epp

Had mine for a couple of years now. Got it about the same price.

It's LOUD. Sounds good. Surround sound is spot on.

Only sliiiiight negatives for me is it's only Alexa. No Google Assistant control. However I guess since it uses ARC or whatever, if your TV is Google controlled, it'll essentially control the sound bar through the TV.

2) In the two years I've had it, it has NEVER stayed connected to wifi so it doesn't really matter if it can be controlled directly via voice. I've done firmware updates and still never stays connected. At this point I just don't even try anymore. But again, controlled through the TV bypasses this anyway

FYI, I purchased and returned this system a few weeks back. The return window is about 2 weeks, and there's a 5% restocking fee (i.e. $35 for this $700 system) that you're billed to receive a return label.

Keep in mind these convenient soundbars are designed for convenient content.

If that's the case, you're not going to take full advantage of a real subwoofer anyways.

It also kinda defeats a reason why you go with a soundbar in the first place.

So much FUD here from people who think this is just a standard soundbar.

Would this be overkill for a 10' x 12' bedroom?

Order delivered today. Unit seems defective. Not setting up. Sending it back tomorrow. Ugh.
In case you also get a unit that is "bricked on arrival", see https://www.reddit.com/r/Soundbar...eshooting/. Samsung screwed up with the last firmware update. Apparently, they could care less to fix in stock items with faulty firmware before shipping.

I had something similar where it would play and then power off itself. 990D BTW.. I called in to support and they told me to power everything off, unplug everything from power and the HDMI cable. Wait for like 2 mins and plug everything back in. That seemed to resolve my issue. But do occasionally get a green screen on my LG 77" OLED. Power everything off and back on again seemed to get rid of green screen or using remote to switch HDMI ports worked too.

how does this compare to the Q990F system?

That one is $1,000 at the moment, is it worth it to spend $300 more for the F version?

RTINGS gave the F an 8.5 while giving the D an 8.6.

The Samsung HW-Q990F is the follow-up to the Samsung HW-Q990D. They're more alike than different with 11.1.4 configurations, similar tunings, features, and performance. The biggest difference is the Q990F has a redesigned sealed subwoofer that rattles less than the ported Q990D when playing back deep bass, but you may prefer the bass tuning of either more. The Q990D, on the other hand, compresses less in the bass at max volume. Otherwise, whichever is less expensive may be the deciding factor.

I got the Q990B for $589 - so not that good of a deal but OK of a deal.

I just bought this, will be setting it up sometime soon I hope. Has anyone mounted the soundbar attached to their tv mount? I am wondering if I need to get a specific soundbar mount

How about overkill for the bathroom TV? I got a 100" OLED in there. So thought I'd pair it with this.
