A traditional setup will be better. Soundbars are useful for rooms you don't want to have a speaker setup in. Home theater? Speakers. Living room that you use for multiple things, including watching TV? Sound bar.

I bought this soundbar the last time it dropped to $700 and recommend it at this price. My toddler loves going after wires and outlets to test us and these are mostly wireless but great sounding surround speakers.

if you have a Samsung phone open the Samsung wallet and open a checking account with the Sofi money. I think just requires transferring a few dollars to it, but once you get it done it will allow you Samsung Savings Program similar to epp

I ordered this and UPS left it out in the rain

The box was full of water and the soundbar was all wet.

Annoying because it was put on the porch partially - half the box under the porch, the other half sticking out into the elements.
Called Samsung and they sent me another one without any hassle! Great customer service.

The replacement sounds amazing and was easy to connect to my LG 77" G3 (which I got a slickdeal on last year!)
Fedex delivered my mattress box to wrong address & just took pic of a random door for pic verification. I called Fedex corporate (cause I know peeps) had them do a trace package & recommended fire that driver, cause they only got 1 job: Deliver package. Within 2 hours I got my mattress box delivered correcty with clear picture.

Not a deal. It cannot be replicated unless you have an EDU

Don't compare soundbars to avr setups, and you'll enjoy soundbars for what they are, plug n play nearly wire free mimick of surround and Atmos. It'll never equate in any way. I love my Q990Cs, but at some point my theater room will get the AVR treatment.
So you have last gen (Q990C), and are waiting for a different dedicated hardware setup. So what, specifically, are you comparing to? This is Slickdeals after all, we need a price/value comparison. Genuinely interested, as I just bought this system. I understand that bigger drivers = better = gonna blow my eardrums out (what little hearing I have left), but what nuanced experience are we actually comparing this to? So far, my Q990D experience has been... pretty top notch, for what my comment is worth.

Not true. I don't have an edu and I got one. I have the first responders ID.me which qualified me for the discount so there is another option.

When I see 11.1.4 I expect to see 16 discrete speakers. What am I missing? Are they counting it per actual speak inside the shared housing?

So much FUD here from people who think this is just a standard soundbar.
dollar for dollar, this is the best soundbar out there for the price. that being said, it just didnt deliver what i wanted. tiny speakers can only deliver so much. the 990D went to the guest room and was replaced with an Integra receiver and Klipsch speakers. there is no comparison.

The problem is you're trying to define this based on an actual speaker based setup(traditional).
This is a tech based setup using minute woofers to simulate surround sound.

ehhh, not really. it's ok for what it serves in my temp living arrangements. the bar and the rears literally have speakers pointing in directions that dont make any sense, away from the listening position. sound is conical and directional. why would you make a speaker point away from the subject? i found the tiny speakers sound...well, tiny. the soundstage just isnt there for me, and that's fine, as the soundbar has it's limits, even after enabling adaptive sound+ and Space Fit calibration. it uses its tricks to push surround, and it's ok for the time being. once my home renovations are finished, this is going in the guest room. i need to get a real home theater system.
Homie doesn't understand what ATMOS is....

Well after having this sound bar for about a month I can say I'm pleasantly surprised with the sound quality. I upgraded from a Creative X-FI Sonic Carrier sound bar (the original giant sized one) with dual 10" subs (in a signal enclosure). The Samsung sound bar has more clarity than the Creative, but moving from dual 10" subs to a smaller subwoofer is noticeable initially. I use the adaptive sound setting for all movies and tv shows.

I had to upgrade due to the Creative started to have hardware malfunctions and one of the subs teared and sounded horrible on big bass tv show/movie scenes. I would say for this price I would certainly try Q990D.

There is a restocking fee for returns. I could not use it because my TV did not have Bluetooth or an optical connection. So I had to return.
