I owned these for about a week before havnig to return it. I know some folks swear by these especially for the 3D audio capabilites, but I really couldnt get around the fact how "thin" the sound was. Explosions, gunshots all lacked any "thump" even after tuning the equalizer to max bass.

I have to strongly disagree on the sound quality. I own 2 pairs and they are light-years better than the standard PS5 headsets. Not to mention they are the first headset after Sony aquired Audeze, whos reputation for superior sound speaks for itself. However...these do have an issue that needs to be noted, which I stated in my previous post about these headsets. Here is a link to the former conversation as well.

Owned these since day 1 release. Love everything about them. Comfort, battery, sound, mic, controls. BUT. There are pretty bad connectivity issues. My friends got the headset too, they get it too. It randomly disconnects. I sent mine to Sony, they "fixed it" but when it came back, few days later, same problem. I tried a usb c adapter. Moved router to another room in case of wireless interference. Didn't fix it. There was a software update. Didn't fix it. According to Reddit, people deduce it's the usb receiver overheating, causing the sudden disconnect. Sadly, I sold mine and bought a arctis nova pro wireless. If these didn't have the random disconnect issues, I'd highly highly recommend even at retail price. So anyone buying these, if my warning wasn't enough, I wish you best of luck and hope you can enjoy them. Wish I could've.

My Reply
100% This...I am on my 3rd pair though returns and RMA, and even traded with a friend to test his. Though, its not related to USB overheating, but it is the issue with the 2.4 wifi signal that it uses and their new "PlayStation Link Technology". Why Sony went away from their standard Bluetooth connection with these makes zero f'ing sense. The disconnection issues are very frustrating. Especially since the only "fix" is to physically disconnect then reconnect the dongle. No, a usb-c extended dongle cable does not fix it (but may help). You name the solution, I have already tried it. The other really crappy feature that Sony removed for another pointless and dumb reason was the volume button that toggles between game volume or party chat. This has been a standard button since ps3 headsets. Big L on Sony for these.

Only used it briefly but no disconnect issues so far.

It's annoying that the included dongle is USB-A, though, considering the front panel ports on the "slim" and Pro are USB-C. This means the dongle needs to connect in the rear (unless an adapter is used, assuming it works), which is inconvenient for something you may not want connected all the time - and might be sub-optimal for signal quality.

Moreover, USB dongles themselves are annoying. Xbox wireless headset doesn't need one, why does PS? Why couldn't they build their presumably proprietary comm tech into the console, like MS apparently did?

I just received them from Amazon when they had a good deal on them. Sound is dare I say just as I love. Clarity is awesome, scene is good, I would rather listen to them over Bose 700 and Sony WH1000XM3 (the headphones I already own). These are my favorite daily drivers now.

Question for someone who uses these. when you turn these off, will it automatically revert back to TV speakers? Or do you have to unplug the dongle? I have a fairly expensive "non-sony" headset and to use TV speakers instead of headset, the dongle has to be unplugged.

Official Sony PlayStation headsets always have good sound quality as long to as there's no manufacturing issues or you haven't blasted them to ruin them. Their real and consistent issues are with the build quality causing them to usually break physically. Places to be careful with when handling usually are the plastic around the ear cups that are usually not strong enough to deal with pressure or bending over time. Also any possible wiring that can eventually break enough to have you lose or have poor sound in-ear. It's not as much of a thing as before but I would try to get at least a warranty of some sort that lasts at least 2 years so you can maybe get your money or an exchange back if you run into issues.

This is what has detered me from purchasing these. I have a larger size head and many headsets I have used have developed cracks and broke at those particular stress points. My current headset is a RIG, which has a full flexible band system instead of those hard plastic stress points that have eventually cracked and broke. So, if you have a larger head and value longevity, take a look at RIG headsets.

Mine snapped, and I babied it. The Turtle Beach Atlas Airs are incredible for the same price. Way better sound and build quality.

These are the most frustrating, irritating headphones I have ever owned, and yet I kept them, the 3D audio is really, really slick.
I plugged a USB hub into the back of my PS5 and then wrapped it around the base so it is facing the front, and is a bit away from the PS5. The headset receiver is plugged into that, and is about as line-of-sight as it can get to my head.
I keep my phone a couch cushion or so over and don't have any other things that could cause interference on the 2.4 band on or in between.
These are all stupid, should not remotely be necessary steps to keep a headset MOSTLY reliably connected to a PS5 but it's helped a lot with the disconnects. Honestly they should just update the firmware to let it be used plugged in via usb c and a stupid long cable to the PS5.
