I always wondered if you are getting 12oz of rainx or 8.5oz of propellant and 3.5oz of rainx?

I've wondered that myself. So i asked PerplexityApplying hydrophobic products like Rain-X to car lenses and sensors can have both benefits and risks, depending on the material and type of product used. For Camera Lenses and Sensors • Standard Rain-X (for glass): It's not recommended for plastic or polycarbonate camera lenses and sensor covers, as it can cause clouding, haze, or long-term damage to these surfaces. Numerous car owners and forums report that Rain-X should not be used on non-glass lenses, with some stating it can "destroy" polycarbonate or acrylic lenses. • Rain-X Plastic Water Repellent: Rain-X now makes a version specifically formulated for plastic surfaces, including acrylic, polycarbonate, and other common automotive lens materials. This product restores clarity, protects against UV, and safely repels water from plastic surfaces, making it preferable for backup cameras, headlights, and other sensors with non-glass covers.User Experiences & Sensor Operation • Many Tesla and BMW owners have applied Rain-X (or similar hydrophobic treatments) to camera/sensor housings with positive effects, noting better water beading and improved camera clarity in the rain. Some report auto-wipers work more reliably because water forms easily detectable beads rather than sheeting over the sensor area. • However, there are also mixed reports about using standard formulas on plastic lenses, with concerns over haze or residue if applied incorrectly.Recommendations • Use the correct product: Only use Rain-X Plastic Water Repellent or similar plastic-safe hydrophobic treatments on non-glass camera lenses and headlights. • Test a small area: Always test on a small, inconspicuous spot first to ensure compatibility. • Clean thoroughly before application: Proper cleaning and buffing are essential to avoid smearing or clouding, no matter which product you use. • Avoid washer fluid issues: Rain-X windshield washer fluids have been linked to malfunctioning level sensors in some vehicles but this does not apply to wipe-on hydrophobic coatings. Bottom line: For car camera lenses and sensors, only use Rain-X formulas made specifically for plastics, not the standard glass variant. This will enhance water repellency, reduce water spots, and help maintain image clarity—without risking haze or damage to the lens material. Always follow label instructions and ensure the chosen product is safe for the particular lens or sensor material on your vehicle.Summary Table

Bad idea, you don't want ketones and acetone being aerosolized and sprayed in your direction, or stored in your washer system

The aerosol can is by far the lowest concentration of Rain-X. The small bottle is the highest, followed by the spray bottle, then the wipes, then the aerosol spray. The aerosol spray can is awful

No you don't. The directions say use a cloth to wipe it on the windshield, then buff it off after it dries. Been using it for years.

I am adding to this to both be helpful and see if others add great ideas. I tried wax. I learned that it needs to be a wax that dries clear. I had white residue fill in the rock chip indentions of my windshield. I found the white speck spots distracting. I also found that wax leaves swirls on the windshield. The swirls did not come out with a little water and mitt, like this Rain-X swirls do. I am next going to try Rain-X Ceramic. I already bought it. I am also waiting for a deal on Rain-X wipers. They are silicone and says you will never need another pair of wipers. Thx again for the posts here.

No, you are confused with a similar product manufactured by RainX that is designed to be added to washer fluid. It's even in a similar looking bottle, but maybe slightly taller. This deal is for the version of the product that is meant to be applied to your windshield and buffed off.
