I bought mine in June 2024. Still doing well. I also have a Samsung 990 Pro in the same machine and the benchies are pretty close.

I've bought over 10 of these for use in high volume database servers without any issue ever. Meanwhile my Samsung drives have failed so frequently I'm replacing them with P41s.

While it is true that there have been problems with batches of these drives, and there have been firmware updates to address them, the jury is still out on the long-term outlook. Some people have no issues, and haven't had any at all. Others have had their drives continue to degrade despite the update. What's probably the issue is that drives that are degrading are going to no matter the firmware, and those that aren't or haven't aren't going to. I have 2 of these since April in a new build, and didn't know about the issues beforehand. I did not experience any degradation prior to updating the firmware, and have not experienced any yet at all, and I'm several hundred gigs in on both of them (2TB) and have cycled through games and large media collections between them. It's a very YMMV situation.

This drive has bad firmware. There was an update but people have been seeing issues even after updating.I would probably look for a deal on a drive from another brand.

would avoid this drive. there's an issue with the controllers where the speeds drop to sub gen3 levels. there's a firmware update but many people say the problem comes back quickly.

I have the Solidigm version of the drive and I think my writes are around 1700MBs now.

SN7100 is a DRAMLESS nvme drive, this one has DRAM cache. This one should be better but for most people there will be very little difference.

I bought one of these for use in an enclosure (with a Mac m4 mini) and had no idea it had any of these issues. How do I tell whether or not the one I get is gonna be a problem? And are they shipping w the updated firmware?

Run a speedtest. If you see the error warranty. I use Blackmagic to test. But be warned its YMMV on the enclosure. I ended up getting an OWC TB one that flies but a usb3 one was borderline unusable.

Given the uncertainties of this drive, I'd get the WD 2TB for even $5 more. DRAM-less, sure. But, I want stability and longevity. Don't mind a little speed loss with the DRAM-less.

i swear by sk hynix drives for my laptop. A few yrs ago, i switched from a samsung ssd to sk hynix and noticed much longer battery life. Not sure if that's still the case but i still use their drives exclusively. I noticed that the lenovos (P and T series) i've purchased also use sk drives

Anyway, I just ran CDM on mine. Not good. Was getting 6280 write last week after reinstalling firmware 51061A20. Now only getting 2621!
