I bought one of the usb 3.1 2x2 enclosures for full price ($50) a few months ago and it's a great enclosure. I put a 4tb gen 4 7500mbps r/w in it and I get full speed. Would even work for a gen 5 drive as long as you use a usb 3.1 gen 2x2 20gb port.

So as long as you use the right port there is no bottleneck? This can be used to dump large video files and the like?

Even a 20Gbps port will bottleneck a good gen 3 or any decent gen 4 drive. 20Gb (gigabits) = 2.5GB (gigabytes) = 2500MB
That's still plenty fast for moving data and the 40Gbps enclosures are a lot more expensive.

You can find occasional sales for enclosures that do 20gbps instead of 10gbps within a close range of these. Highly recommend going with those over buying the 10gbps. As the guy 2 posts above mine mentioned, 40gbps is still in nosebleed section. Update your pc's direct m.2 slot with a gen 4 or 5 (and heatsink!) and put the gen3 in an enclosure.

You don't get the full speed of that drive and this device does not have a 20gb port.

You might want to check into 40gb enclosures again. I've seen some on ali around 30 bucks... I don't understand why there's not more 20gb enclosures though...

7500 mbps = 937 MB/s

You probably meant 7500 MB/s , which needs PCIe or TB5 to get full speed - usb 3.1 caps well below that

Use the right port, the right cables, the right drive, the right drivers...maybe

USB 3.2x2 never saw much that adoption, and almost no laptop/mobile device has it, so it's less common. Plus no Thunderbolt chip supports it as an alternate USB mode, so there's just not that big of a market for it.
