I was told he used steroids to enhance his training, which is not a surprise or a bad thing when you need energy beyond your capabilities. The closest modern Bruce Lee strength and size is someone like Anatoly the gym janitor.

Not sure if it was steroids. He did use enchantments. The issue was he was training all the time but wasn't getting the body type he wanted.
Later on he just lacked time to continue his training schedule so he had to find ways to maintain it.
Edit; I've only read the autobiography written by John Little. Like every single autobiography I've read it did have a number of inaccuracies. I guess inaccuracies is wrong word. If was accurate as far as John knew it. He just took Bruce at his word for a lot of things.

It wasn't steroid but marijuana and cocaine. In some of his letters released recently there were implications that he was human like anyone else. I don't think less of him, he was my idol. But every person is a human being and we are here because of our flaws.

Lee: "Well, that would never happen."
"But if you did, what do you think would happen?"
Lee: "I would make him a cripple."
