The wrenches included here, are the ones that beat Snap-on in the TTC shootout.

The wrenches and sockets use the MAC rbrt technology (they are owned by the same company)

interesting use of the word 'beat'. it beat it in 2 tests and didn't even get close in 2 others. Craftsman ranked 2nd behind Snap-on, 1st only if you measure value (i.e. adjust for price).

Value is good for home mechanics.

When a $70 set of wrenches beats a $600 set, I'd say that's a pretty great value.

Hopefully Pushy will do the sockets next.....

Don't sleep on the DeWalt 192 pc set.. $169 through Amazon and Home Depot right now. It's been slightly cheaper in the last year, but for no frills, minimal filler, and a fairly durable case (the pieces don't go falling out everywhere after several uses, etc)..it's hard to beat. It's a little much to tote around.. and it doesn't offer the convenience of swapping a broken tool at harbor freight.. but for the right one, it's hard to beat. Thanks for posting OP.

agreed, and not suggesting I own snap on, but it is important to note the difference between best performance and best value

Very nice set. If anyone is looking for a good set on a budget or to keep in a vehicle, take a look at the craftsman cmmt12125 159 piece set that has been on sale the past few months for $99 at Amazon and Lowe's. I bought a set to keep in my truck and it paid for itself the first time I used it. I've since purchased 2 more for other vehicles. Be aware the case is quite large.

I hear ya.

I do own Snapon, Williams, MAC, Carlisle, vintage =V= Craftsman, and even a few Icons.

So I'm not married to any specific brand. If I needed a tool or something was on sale, I bought it - regardless of brand.

So I love when an underdog surprises everyone and wins a few rounds.

If a gal starting out can get 2 of these quality tool sets for the price of just the wrench set... probably will be all they ever need.

I have a different (smaller) version of this socket set. These sockets do seem to work as advertised for gripping rounded bolt heads, etc. HOWEVER: they are made to very tight tolerances. So tight, that if a fastener is out of tolerance (too big, too rusty) the correct socket might not fit.

I personally like that about them - as long as a fastener was made to spec, these fit nice and tight and aggressive. If some jerk rounded it prior to you, you can get it off. However, I would anticipate that there's some 5-10% of fasteners you might encounter that will have an issue with fitment.

Another issue is that singles for these sets are not available, and the warranty exchange process seems to imply Craftsman might replace a broken socket with a non-Overdrive socket.

For these reasons, I consider these more as a secondary backup set for getting off tough bolts - not my primary socket set. Not trying to dissuade anyone from this deal, just some caveats to be aware of. YMMV.

This is a really nice set at a good price if the loadout matches your needs. The Overdrive stuff is noticeably nicer than the regular Craftsman line, and as others have noted these and the V-series are essentially approved Taiwan-made clones of much fancier tool lines (MAC, Facom) owned by the same companies. These are made in Taiwan so not sure what their future is WRT tariff policy changes.

…and they DO factor value in the rankings, which is how it beat Snap-On. It's not strange at all to say it "beat" Snap-On in TTC's rankings because it did. Their ranking charts are the core aspect of the channel. They literally charge for access to the spreadsheets.

Seems like a good set, but those wrenches are on the small end. If you end up replacing them for larger wrenches then it ends up being a pretty expensive set.

Thanks for mentioning the size of the wrenches. I think I will pass on this set.

Wrenches only up to 16mm? Strange. I don't think I've ever seen a set that did not include a 19mm
