Kroger is offering 4x the normal amount of Fuel Points on the purchase of certain gift cards on their gift card portal. Math on this deal is as follows:
  • 4 fuel points are earned for every $1 spent on gift cards, so the purchase of a participating $25 gift card will net you 100 fuel points.
  • 100 fuel points convert into a 10¢ per gallon discount on your next fillup, with the discount maxing out on a 35-gallon fillup.
  • You can accumulate a maximum of 1,000 fuel points for a $1 per gallon discount (when filling up at Kroger) or a maximum of 100 fuel points for a 10¢ per gallon discount (when filling up at participating Shell locations).
Amazon gift cards only earn 2x the normal fuel points back, but there are a lot of strong brands that are included in the promo such as eBay and Target.

How good this deal is will depend on how much gas your car can hold (and if you live near a Kroger in the first place and can make use of the fuel points), but if you drive something that can hold 35 gallons of gas, this is effectively $3.50 back (or 14%) on the purchase of any $25 gift card that's part of the promo.
If you drive something smaller and go for a 10-gallon fillup, this turns into a much less impressive $1 discount on every $25 gift card, which is 4% back.

my wife and brother take all three of our cars at the same time and fill them all up on the same fuel points.

No Amazon sucks. When did that start?

A few weeks ago I took in all our change to the Coinstar machine. They no longer offer Amazon gc's as full value for the coins.

About 8-9 years ago I bought four 5 gallon cans and a shake siphon (~$50 outlay at the time). About once a month I fill my truck and put any extra in the cans to fill my wife's car and maximize my points. 2 points on my VX card plus 14% on an Amazon GC was my go-to at the end of the month to top up to 1000 points if we weren't already there. Sadly, it's been quite a while since they included Amazon on the 4x list (at least 6 months, maybe closer to a year), 'cause that was a nice double dip to fund S&S runs at 15% off.

Amazon has been trying for quite a few months to crack down on reliable, everyday rewards/discounts on Amazon gift cards sold by third parties.
My guess is that they've realized that there are customers who pay for their orders entirely and repeatedly with gift cards, did some math, and decided that it's more profitable for those customers to pay for their orders with credit or debit, so they're doing what they can to discourage gift card incentives.
