This is a well-spec'd Acer Chromebook for a fair price. I've owned several Acer laptops (refurb from Ebay) and the quality has been very good! Costco 2nd year of warranty included for extra peace of mind.

Also the battery life is overstated, they claim 40% more than it actually lasts. This is with no video watching or audio. Just simple web browsing, most of it is looking through Slickdeals, amazon or Walmart.
Apps treat this as a phone, for example firefox or edge.
No seprate apps exist for Chromebooks.

Now the Costco version seems to AMD and that comes with backlit it appears. There is a intel version that does not have backlit.

My kid needs a laptop for school; this school doesn't issue one, but it's on the list of strongly recommended supplies.
I mainly just need the cost to be low.
It just needs to do what the school needs it to do.
My other kid went through these same grades 3 years ago with a Chromebook. The older one did fine and still uses it enough to not want to let it got to the younger sib for their run. It's still the older one's go-to laptop.
During shopping, I found a Windows 10 laptop. Then I realized Win10's going out of support early in this school year and some people said this wouldn't upgrade to Win11. But even if I go get a (pricier) Win11 laptop, we'll still have to deal with that expiring OS crap eventually. And I've never had to deal with it on the older one's Chromebook.
So, for a situation where you don't need it to be MS Windows, and you don't want to bother messing with Linux, a Chromebook seems to be the easiest practically maintenance-free solution.

I prefer Linux, when practical, but even computers launched in 2017 (intel 8th generation) can be updated to Windows 11, saying that all w10 computers are going to be obsolete soon is a major misunderstanding.
Side note: ChromeOS is a flavor of Linux, just with a lot of Google tie-ins that they can monopolize and prevent folks from using software-based ad-blockers.
