It's a pretty great laptop if all the software you need runs on it. Great build, great trackpad, ssd easy to upgrade

Keep in mind this uses an ARM processor, which is different processor architecture (x86) than the Surface 4. Would highly recommend you check with graduate to see if they need to use specialized software that is only compatible with x86.

No he was right, I think you have it reversed. You can easily upgrade the m.2 SSD on Surface Laptop 3 and up.

Another thing you need to realize is that the Microsoft Surface SSDs use an enclosure that acts as a heatsink. That heat is transferred through the BOTTOM of the SSD into the laptop chassis. So just putting another 2230 SSD without the enclosure will cause overheating and random restarts. The best thing to do is to grab a 128GB OEM Surface SSD off eBay for less than $10 and cannibalize the enclosure for your upgraded drive.

While the newest Surface Pros do have an incredibly easy way to replace the M.2 SSD through the door you mention, you are wrong about the Surface Laptop 7 needing you to do anything with the keyboard at all.
You need to have the correct screwdrivers to take the bottom panel off, but the process is still quite simple and doesn't involve the keyboard. The iFixit guide here is for the 13", but the process is the same: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Micr...ent/174592

I own the 15" version of this, and am a big fan of how well Windows on ARM runs (I don't use it for gaming so i VERY rarely encounter software compatibility issues) that being said I'm not sure how good a deal this is for a refurb with base specs. For a refurb you should at least be getting the 512GB SSD for this price IMO

You don't have to take the keyboard off on the laptop. I have a Surface Laptop 7 and upgraded the SSD. You have to remove the bottom panel. There are 4 rubber feet that come off and replace fairly easily. Then you need a small torx bit, I forget the size. One torx holds the drive in place. You can download a recovery image from MS to a USB for a new laptop. On a laptop that has been in use, you'll need to clone your old drive before removing the drive. Reassemble and restore image and you are done.

I watched the video, I was wrong about the keyboard, that was the older version. Anything where you have to use pry tools and risk breaking plastic clips, does not fall into the "easily upgradeable" category. And yes, I've used the Surface image downloads over a dozen times, that part is easy. Still, swapping in a bare drive is a definite heat risk.
