These kinds of machines seem to be popping up all the time lately. People always talk about using them as a Plex server or something like that, but does anyone have any experience using them as a basic web browsing/email machine?

Looking at the specs it's a little overkill for your particular web browsing and email use-case but better than using a laggy n1xx processor.

Thanks, yea that's kind of what I was wondering. There's another one on SD right now for $123 that has a Twin Lake N150, but that seems so underpowered to be almost useless long term. I am looking for a machine I can set up for someone and have it just work for the next 5-6 years.

Yeah. Browsing is unfortunately a resource hogs these days. Someone can remake quake in 14KB of JavaScript but average web pages will consume enough resources to make the n150 painful at times.

I have a bunch of these micro desktops setup for a customer that replaced a bunch of 6th gen i5's and everyone loves how much faster these are. Since most of their work is done in a web browser, most have around 8 tabs open in Chrome, with also Outlook and MS Teams running. Buy a universal micro/mini VESA mount, and mount them behind your monitor.

They're pretty much laptops in a micro box. When you buy one, check the company's website to make sure they have an English one, and check out their download section and see if they have BIOS updates on their computers, and not just the original version that's shipped with the computers. .

Good price for one with usb c. Most at this price or cheaper don't have it.

I prefer the N150's over Raspberry Pi's for its idle power consumption and its incorporation of a UEFI. They're more like a traditional computer when it comes to installing linux. You can easily use way more power than necessary on dusty Intel i5's.

These Ryzens have a but more juice but their use case vastly differs from MiniPCs with a strong emphasis on idle power.

Can you say more about that? You are saying the Ryzen's will use significantly more power than the N150 when idle?

I purchased the M5 model a couple months ago. It was great for web browsing and light gaming. The only thing I didn't like was the CPU cooler. It's pretty loud and high pitch. If you like to use headphones often it should be fine.

I have an n100 and a n95 mini. Neither have lag doing much more than just email and web browsing. You must be having driver issues or just plain user error.
