I don't blend much these days and have a basic blender in a cabinet. What would change aside from my wallet and counter/cabinet space with this blender?

Besides Vitamix making most of the best blenders around (with a 10 year warranty to boot), this also comes with a food processor attachment. That could save you another purchase and it could save you the hassle of moving the blender base out of the way when you need a food processor.
Whether you need any of that or not is up to you. If you don't blend a lot because you don't have much of an interest in blended foods, that's one thing. But if you don't blend a lot because using your blender is a terrible ordeal, AND, you wish you could blend more, consider a Vitamix.

The gf said she'd make smoothies because this will blend up the ice well. I don't think we need the food processor so I'll wait for a $200 deal on their lower end models but thanks for the info

Yeah in that case waiting won't hurt. I bought mine when it was ~$260. It was an entry-level model. Funny story is, when it was delivered (I got mine from Amazon), the base was all smashed up. I reached out to Vitamix and they fixed it free of charge. They really do stand behind their stuff. If you can wait until Black Friday that's a great time to buy, they usually do great deals for new and refurb units.

I can certainly vouch for the "value" of higher end Vitamix. I spent under $300 on the A3300. Best purchase ever. I'm about as frugal as they come, but it not only blends better than anything I've ever owned, but it doesn't break. I use it 300+ times a year. The ten year warranty just adds to the peace of mind of having it.
