Good deal. I have two of these. I've had this bag and used it for a month in Europe and recently in Asia. I prefer a backpack to keep both hands free compared to rolling luggage. It has heavy-duty zippers and plenty of padding. I use the four straps along with the expansion zipper to keep the bag compact and snug.

For airlines that allow only carry on , can this be used as personal item plus the carry on ?

I agree that this isn't a great size for carry on use. The $35 XX-Large size at the listing gives 2 inches more depth (max 20"x14"x9") for more carry on space.

I have similar sized backpack (XXL) and it felt way to heavy as a backpack.

not the person that originally said that... but I have been eyeing one at Target by Open story if you search 45L travel backpack. I saw someone with them at the airport and they seem quite nice... but triple this sale price at 70 bucks. We are waiting for a sale. It measures 22.5 x 14 x 9, but they have smaller versions as well.

This would be a great personal bag for spirit and I'm sure they wouldn't check the size most of the time but the time they do I would hate to end up paying for it to be a carry on
