I prefer the velcro straps better than this, something like: https://www.amazon.com/Boxer-Velc...B0F7ZCFY2J
The plastic parts will eventually break after being thrown around, but the velcro ones are much sturdier.

I use luggage straps as a backup in case a zipper fails. It also makes it very easy to identify and then physically retrieve my bag from the carrousel. Ultimately it's a cheap price for peace of mind while traveling with a lot of stuff.

I prefer the velcro straps better than this, something like: https://www.amazon.com/Boxer-Velc...B0F7ZCFY2J
The plastic parts will eventually break after being thrown around, but the velcro ones are much sturdier.

In case airport workers throw your luggage from the cargo hold onto the cart or let it free-fall to the ground, causing the zippers to burst.

thanks. bookmarked for when they might be cheaper. maybe the plastic buckle can be moved to the side with wheels to prevent direct impact?

Yes, velcro version works very well. I have a few that are in use for maybe 10+ years. I got them free from tour companies. They still work fine. No, TSA or foreign customs never cut them. The strap is so easy to use they just put the strap back if they needed to inspect luggage. Naysayers here never have or use one so they don't know. Many advantages to have this:
  1. Make your luggage more visible
  2. Avoid mistake by other travelers
  3. Hold your luggage's two sides tighter together
  4. Indeed in case zipper fails, this is a great backup
  5. In fact you could purposely use strap to cover over zipper heads to protect them
  6. Use it to haul luggage out from carousel in case you can't reach the handle
  7. As another mentioned, if you check in a box or container type luggage, this is THE way.

Exactly my thoughts upon seeing plastic buckles! Plastic always seems to break. Thanks for the Velcro link.
