How does that affect Costco's excellent return policy when the membership you bought something under is now cancelled?
It's tempting to cancel and start over BUT I want my expensive electronics, furniture, tires etc to continue to have what is essentially a protection plan pseudo warranty. I'm not going to return a cheap chair a year later, but if for example an expensive recliner stops working at 4 months I absolutely would bring it back.

I got the $20 card. Oh well.
We found out the hard way that primary and secondary rewards are treated as separate transactions and separate rewards but combined for the reward check. This means if primary is removed for whatever reason and secondary becomes primary, the original primary will forfeit all its rewards, but the original secondary will still get its rewards. Snippet from Costco's site below.
On returns (and even tire service if you bought from there), I believe you need to have an active membership even if your membership number changes, such as if you cancelled and and signed up again at a later time. They will look you up based on your name and address.
"If, at any time, the Primary Household Cardholder is removed from the account, their purchases will not apply toward the Reward."

Lol sooo anyways!!!! In summary to answer your questions, Costco will honor your returns or exchange even if your membership expires. Just be ready to be treated like garbage. I just hope that nothing I buy from Costco breaks down or have any issues cus I dont think is worth to go through the hassle of return/exchange.
