For those of you who switch off every year between you and your spouse being the primary member, so you can take advantage of the new member deal….

How does that affect Costco's excellent return policy when the membership you bought something under is now cancelled?

It's tempting to cancel and start over BUT I want my expensive electronics, furniture, tires etc to continue to have what is essentially a protection plan pseudo warranty. I'm not going to return a cheap chair a year later, but if for example an expensive recliner stops working at 4 months I absolutely would bring it back.

So the 0.01 discount has been applied, does that mean I am eligible for the $45 costco shop card? Its 2025 and companies still doesn't have a clear indication whether we are getting the promo or not.

How do you even get that to work nowadays? Last time I tried this, the member promo team denied it because of the same household address and the 18 months cooldown applies to that address.

you need to lapsed without being a member for 18 months. Sams Club is better, just need to lapsed for 6 months.

This doesn't apply to existing active members and also you need an 18 month gap from when you last had an active membership.

Do you have an existing membership that has expired for 18+ months? I have an active membership w/ renewal date coming in a few months, and I tried the promo code for kicks and I get the $0.00 as well like you. Like the OP said, it needs to be $.01 for the promo to kick in.

Didn't have an issue in the past, maybe 3-4 years ago, where we rotated between 3 household members. For example, you have X Y Z (3 people) in your household. First letter is primary, second is "household". XY for the first year of membership. ZX the second year. Then back to YX for third year if the timing is right (remember 18 months and not 12 months). At some point it was not worth the hassle for the sake of a shop card because your member ID constantly changes and it becomes difficult to track anything for returns. Also if you decide to upgrade to executive membership, you have to keep in mind the primary accountholder will forfeit the rewards if he/she gets removed from the membership -- depending on the timing of renewal and the swap, etc.

It's not necessary to auto-renew. I had the same issue as you and I had chosen "Don't Enroll" a few hours ago. I just re-tried it with "Don't Enroll with auto renew" and finally got order confirmation with the $0.01 discount. So the glitch has been resolved.

Yeah that would work except in my case, Y wants to shop at Costco always.
With costco enforcing membership check at the entrance, we had to do XY, ZY and now shooting for YX.
Looks like they also added address check now. Fingers crossed Smilie
