Can you share where you live? Trying to figure out if I'm the same market.

Brickseek for Target inventory isn't working.

Los Angeles targets seem to be at $49.99. Would be a nice deal at the $24

This previous generation port of a wii u game came out 7 years ago (the wii u game 11 years ago) and the "sale" on it is an extremely ymmv clearance deal at certain target stores as they purge it from shelves to make room for newer inventory. Nintendo games do not go on sale except for once in a blue moon.

I agree. I played it on wii U and it's one of the greatest platformers of all time. My point still stands.

tropical freeze and alot of switch AAA games were actually $30 during the 2020 Black Friday sale when everyone was stuck at home during COVID. I had actually stocked up on alot of those games for $30 each back then.

This isn't out of the goodwill of Nintendo but targets clearance schedule. The good Nintendo of the past would have made all these games players choice titles of their own accord. But that Nintendo is long gone

Pretty sure that digital storefronts killed that concept off long enough ago that only a rarified few of us (myself included) know what you're describing.

Good luck!

lol, you make it sound like it was decades ago. It actually wasn't all that long ago. Previous gen in fact until the Switch 2 was released two months ago. The 3DS had Nintendo Selects titles that you could have still found around at retail even after the OG Switch launched in 2017.

edit: what sounded the death knell for the Nintendo Selects line was Switch games seemingly easily setting new software sales records for various franchises, not uncommonly in the tens of millions or just being relatively 'evergreen' in general. It seems a strong factor into why it was not brought back.

I just got this deal, I asked where the switch clearance items were. The games did not have the usual yellow target clearance sticker. If you scan it on the in store price scanner, you will see the updated price. There were other games
Mario Golf @ $43 , Looney Toons Sports, Pokemon Sword, and a handful of others.
The trick is, ask the Target associate where the clearance games are, then price scan them in store. Price scanning on your phone target app does not show clearance price.

That's actually a solid observation. I was thinking about more traditional consoles (where I'm still thinking the gap has been at least a couple of generations?) and totally forgot about the mobile space (which speaks more to how the Switch covers both spaces than anything else).

Good luck!

Well for what its worth the direct predecessor to the Switch, the Wii U, also had the Nintendo Selects line of budget titles as well and you could easily substitute it for the 3DS in this regard. Albeit you can make the case that it was on a bit more of an accelerated time line due to the relative failure of the platform from a business standpoint.
