32GB 4-channel RAM, similar multi-core performance (worse single-core) - for technically $100 more, this could be tempting if one is in the market for the Mac Mini 4

Does it come with a solid gold base?
This was built in 2022 (when Apple had more integrity.) The gold base is reserved for the 2025 models...

Probably needs it because the thermal emission is 45W vs 25 for the M4. OTHOH, this also accommodates a lot more ports.

Mac Studio M1 Max Mac mini M4 (2024)
Single-Core Score 2418 3787
Multi-Core Score 12644 14613
OpenCL GPU Score 62791 37735
Metal GPU Score 106253 57075

CPU is slower than the $599 base mini M4 but the GPU is double. This Studio has double the RAM and storage of the base M4 mini though.

And it is being $250 more (over a fairly common $450) - so upgrading the RAM for $250 should not be a problem.
Mini M4 wins

Don't forget the studio has 10gbe vs 1gbe on the mini

You cannot upgrade the RAM.
If you want to do anything with local LLMs or graphically intensive tasks the 2022 Mac Studio wins by a significant amount. A M4 Mac Mini with 32 GB of RAM is $999 new and that still won't get you the GPU.
