From Sound and Vision:

THE VERDICT
Both sets of earbuds are excellent true wireless options. But the Pi8's sound quality and features set it apart, making it an attractive upgrade even for AirPods Pro owners.

These two new true wireless earbud models from Bowers & Wilkins are updated replacements to the Pi5 S2 and Pi7 S2. While the $250/pair Pi6 could be seen as an AirPods Pro alternative based on price, the Pi8 sits well above them, a $400 flagship in-ear with a very neat trick up its sleeve carried over from the Pi7 S2: You can connect the charging case to a USB-C source and the headphones will pair directly with the case.

So, why go with Bowers & Wilkins instead of Apple? I can think of a few reasons. The first is aesthetic, AirPods stick out of your ears, these earbuds are more discreet and are also available in black, green, blue and white. The second relates to sound, you do get a different listening experience out of the Pi6 and Pi8. It's subjective, but you might like the sound better, especially that of the Pi8, which to my ears achieves a greater level of detail rendition than Apple's. And there's choice of phone: iPhone users of course get the most out of AirPods, to the point where owning a pair to go with an iPhone is near-mandatory. But on any other device their functionality is much more limited. Meanwhile Bowers & Wilkins has an Android app, so the functionality is the same on both platforms.
If i didn't already have AirPod Pro 2s I'd fancy a pair. It's a high end company. If sound quality is the desire over the intuitive  platform, I'd lean toward these. But I've already got half a dozen buds. And the apples seem to most secure in my ears.

Why is the bar the air pods pro? Many other brands that perform better than those. Is it the price point?
it's one of the top selling headphones. As someone who owns way too much audio gear, airpod pros are surprisingly good. They're tuned to be pleasing to average listener, sound quality is decent, comfortable enough, battery life is okay, ANC works well.
"Many other brands perform better" is a stretch. There are certainly better sounding headphones out there, or better noise canceling, but for the form factor and all around feature set, it's a leader for a reason.

Better sound quality, but worse noise cancelling.

OK makes sense. I own a lot of audio equipment and gear myself. I've found them to be a bit overrated, but like all apple or bose products, they placate the masses. I have found the 50 dollar pair of Samsung noise canceling FE to be the best bang for your buck, but I am partial to the xm5 by Sony.

Sounds good when it works, but totally not worth it because of the quality issues. I got mine when they first came out — the left bud on the first pair died within days, the second pair had constant connectivity problems, and the third pair worked for about a week before refusing to charge. Honestly, plenty of no-name Chinese earbuds under $100 have better quality than this.

Tried the mic at all? The XM5 and Bose QC buds both have terrible mics.

I believe they mean this deal for a refurbished pair of XM5s.
