This drive could have intel, micron, or YMTC NAND. Controller will be different depending on the NAND. You're rolling the dice and what hardware you will get. I personally hate YMTC NAND because I had a lot of it fail.

YMTC is a Chinese manufacturer. They make chips on older lithography (due to sanctions and lagging domestic tech) using, let's say "borrowed", memory technology.

Given the bottom of the barrel pricing, I would be good money this is YMTC hardware.

because i work in an office with 300+ desktop computers, 200+ laptops and some NAS boxes. this is going to sound crazy, but it's rather difficult to use 1 SSD in 500+ computers. one might even say impossible. so i had to buy many. also, like my original post that you clearly didn't read said, these use to have intel and micron NAND. that's what i was expecting to get. now they don't.

PS: I have a drawer full of dead samsung SSDs as well. there are at least 100 of them in there. i still buy them

because i did not know they changed the hardware without changing the PN.

i can. but i'm not going to. sorry i stopped reading after that. you don't have to listen to me. buy whatever you want

this is true for actual manufacturers like samsung, micron, sandisk/wd, etc. it's NOT true for kingspec. kingspec doesn't actually make anything. they buy drives and put their stickers on it. that's it. that's why 1 part number from kingspec can be 3 completely different drives from different manufacturers.

I got a 4TB open box Samsung 990 pro (regarded as the best NVME on the market) on eBay for $20 more. It had 0 power cycles and TBW (Terabytes written) on it so it was new.

Do run a SMART long test on that drive (if you didn't). SMART details are fakable, the long test is as well but seems to be less likely to be faked than the short test results (maybe requires more expertise to fake those). A couple refurbished HDD's I've bought showed great results on short SMART tests but on the long test revealed they had been used for thousands of hours EEK!

Which YMTC NAND have you had fail? My understanding is their 232-layer TLC is quite well regarded. The older 128L may be another story. Also, let's not pretend all their technology is stolen. I believe NAND manufacturers like Samsung and SK Hynix are licensing their 3D Xtacking technology.

That said, I'm not defending or recommending the KingSpec drive. I'm quite wary of those, though I have no personal experience with them.

Cheap? Yes. Expecting great performance and durability? No. Trust it with your data? Don't.

I have heard, not sure if it's true: Many big-name brands, to cut the cost, "recycle" their products that have minor defects and thus not meeting the standards - sell to small manufacturers who then rebrand them with cheaper price. Kingspec is just one of them.

There is a reason these cheap low-quality SSD still sells. Not all computers are used for keeping valuable data. You get what you pay for.

Why you do have lots of YMTC NAND if they keep failing? Can you provide objective proof of your claims, such as benchmarks on Youtube, or large-scale surveys about SSDs? With proof, do you work on servers or provide tech support for a company with hundreds of employees?

The large majority of NewEgg reviews said this KingSpec SSD had superior bang for the buck in regard to price, storage size, & speed, but a small minority of reviews said the SSD was slower than expected for massive data transfers. A tiny minority of reviewers said the SSD had reliability problems. One reviewer even said SSDs from Western Digital (US company) were less reliable & more expensive than SSDs were from KingSpec (China company).

My Huawei tablet from China has been working well since 2018. Huawei company still has lots of good reviews on older to newer products & growing sales around the world, even though the US has been applying global sanctions against Huawei & other China tech companies.
