YMTC is a Chinese manufacturer. They make chips on older lithography (due to sanctions and lagging domestic tech) using, let's say "borrowed", memory technology.
Given the bottom of the barrel pricing, I would be good money this is YMTC hardware.
PS: I have a drawer full of dead samsung SSDs as well. there are at least 100 of them in there. i still buy them
because i did not know they changed the hardware without changing the PN.
i can. but i'm not going to. sorry i stopped reading after that. you don't have to listen to me. buy whatever you want
this is true for actual manufacturers like samsung, micron, sandisk/wd, etc. it's NOT true for kingspec. kingspec doesn't actually make anything. they buy drives and put their stickers on it. that's it. that's why 1 part number from kingspec can be 3 completely different drives from different manufacturers.

Don't buy.
I have heard, not sure if it's true: Many big-name brands, to cut the cost, "recycle" their products that have minor defects and thus not meeting the standards - sell to small manufacturers who then rebrand them with cheaper price. Kingspec is just one of them.
There is a reason these cheap low-quality SSD still sells. Not all computers are used for keeping valuable data. You get what you pay for.

KingSpec is not Huawei though.
I have 2 of these drives. They work... okay. Both are used in unRAID servers as cache drives. Neither have failed and are often getting used for VMs (and MOVEer drives). That said, have I seen the transfer speed go from 300+MB/s to zero on a same drive to same drive (Windows VM to unRAID cache)? Yes, but I think it's more the SLC cache gets full or the drive gets a little warm (Although they never seem to report more than 47C).
Bought them both in December on another NewEgg deal that made them ~$179 while other 4TB drives were starting to jump back up considerably. I think it was more stockpiles were depleting / less availability than anything political etc.
Was it mistake that I bought TWO of these drives? Maybe. Perhaps. When I, very quickly, received the $40 GC rebate on the first one, I looked to see what I could use it on that I needed... and then drive #2 was bought. I do sometimes get the urge to drop money on a 4TB T500 / 970 Pro / WD Black deal just to see if replacing the one on the busier server yields better results. I'm assuming it would.
Amazon & NewEgg have lots of reviews about SSDs & other products from KingSpec, & the reviews are generally very good. However, KingSpec makes lower tier to upper tier products, thus you cannot confuse these categories, such as assuming a lower tier product represents an upper tier product, & vice versa. According to KingSpec, they actually manufacture certain parts & work with other companies to manufacture other parts. That is typical for many companies worldwide.
Before you wrote lousy reviews for KingSpec & "made in China" in general, I had no idea KingSpec was a China company. Your lousy reviews for KingSpec persuaded me to do my own research about KingSpec company. According to what I've read, KingSpec is actually a good company overall (but no company is perfect, & some companies are generally better than other companies). On the other hand, Oracle is an extremely mediocre company that's way too popular in the USA & in other countries, because Oracle has ties to the CIA, Israel, both the Democrat Party & Republican Party, America's socially connected companies, etc.
