I'd agree. I've taken the bag on medium-adventure trips to Thailand and Costa Rica carrying drones and lots of camera gear, and frequent business trips carrying a drone and 2 laptops + a tablet. PD went too far towards minimalism on the straps, making the bag uncomfortable to carry when loaded. I also find the size adjustments and ride awkward. It's not a trekking pack, but i did carry it on a serious 8 mile hike in Costa Rica and it was not really pleasant.
There's also a few fails in the design (no key hook or anchor link, really?!). I keep carrying it because it fits most my travel needs better than anything else I have, but I'm still searching for the perfect travel-adventure pack.

4 lb 8 oz. This is getting close to strapping my hard-side rolling back to my shoulders.

i find it amazing that they never updated the straps to be beefier. I use a goruck or osprey farpoint as my onebag

use this as my primary travel bag and the amount of utility this thing offers and how much it fits is great.

Does anyone know if there has been some kind of redesign? I see two almost identical versions of this in black. If you search peak design 45L at REI both come up. They have slightly different pictures and descriptions but no claims of one being an update. Different item numbers. Also extremely subtle difference in the main photo, like maybe they added a key hook? I'm assuming they are clearancing out the original black one to start selling this "update" but I'm curious what features we might be missing if we buy this discounted one.

Awesome bag, have used as my EDC for the past 5 years. Hold my lunch, laptop, gym clothes, shaker bottle, water bottle and about a dozen other things I don't need. It has held up really go, bottom of internal laptop area became frayed and developed a hole after about 2 years (16" MBP pretty heavy)

I've stayed away from Peak Design bags because they are so heavy.

I think the difference between their V1 and V2 bags is they swapped out the YKK zippers for their own and a minor change to the fabric.

peak weight

I use the REI ruckpack 30 and 40, and the 40 is just a little over 2lb. Stopped using my Farpoint in favor of it as well.

I have the 30L Peak Design Everyday and Cotopaxi Allpa 42L. Whether it fits your needs is a personal choice, based on organizational needs and individual physical build. 45L is not going to be very comfortable for anyone who is smaller than average. Allpa has a comfortable shoulder strap at 42L, less structured than Peak Design backpacks. Peak Design does come with an established level of quality and warranty support. There are plenty of reviews to read on deciding whether it is a good fit.

I've been using this as my main travel bag for the last two years. Overall it's a great pack, but the main downsides as others have mentioned are the weight and straps. Yes, it is on the heavy side, but after using it for quite a bit of time, I no longer find it feeling that heavy. You get used to it. The weight can be a major downside if the bag has to meet certain weight requirements when flying though, but where I travel it doesn't.

Initially I found the straps chafed. This went away pretty quickly. Yes, the straps are not nearly as comfortable as something like a Osprey Farpoint, but you do get used to them. I almost never use the waist straps. It's also super easy and fast to tuck the straps away.

Love all the organization and all the grab handles on the bag, especially the one that goes against your back. Makes it super easy to pick up and shuffle around when it's laying down.
