Product Details:
  • Author: Christopher Kimball
  • Print Length: 748 pages
  • Stop shopping and start cooking what you have. Your pantry's possibilities are endless. Milk Street will help you transform whatever you already have into bright, bold meals from around the world.
  • Got a can of chickpeas? It can become anything from a quick hummus to a curry spiked with sweet carrots, from a garlicky chickpea soup to a bowl of crispy canned beans with lemon and scallions.
  • Or grab that can of tomatoes from the back of the cabinet. It can become spicy one-pot pasta all'arrabbiata, chilaquiles rojos, a rich shakshuka with poached eggs or a chicken and tortilla soup.
  • Turn to the refrigerator, where eggs and leftover vegetables are the start of cheesy migas, a Spanish tortilla with potato chips or a quick fried rice. Chicken breasts or thighs from the freezer become Hungarian chicken paprikash or hearty chicken salad with green tahini. Cooks in Amalfi, Italy, taught us to turn a wedge of Parmesan and lemons on the counter into a light yet flavorful pesto. And that's just the start. Desserts, too, come together easily with ingredients everyone keeps on hand.
  • These 225 recipes begin with the most common ingredients in your kitchen, but they provide more than a lesson in practicality. They teach an improvisational, creative way to cook.

Interesting, Kobo says it was $5 before being on sale.

Yes, Amazon frequently lies about the MSRP to make the sale price look more attractive. You can check Kobo, Barnes and Noble, Google Play, or Apple Books to see a more realistic listing price.

Is this a book that's meant to be read from cover to cover, or more like a reference book that you look up what you have and see what you can make with it?

Not to sound like a hater on this book, but Chatgpt is an amazing cooking assistant. Tell it what you have and you can make some great food.

Have you tried it? It's elevated my cooking on so many levels. Improved my pizza game, bbq and quite a few winner quick meals. Way higher success ratio than books ever had.

I've used it but I don't think it's a healthy thing to form a reliance on

there are websights that do stuff like this;
i call my neighbor to tell her what veg are best priced this weekend,
i then get her a few pounds of the main sale item and some others,
and she comes up with a recipe from some website that uses it up.

AI is a tool like any other, say your smartphone. Use tools wisely. Even search engines use AI when you browse for a recipe.

I've used various AI bots and you're absolutely correct! If you're putting together a recipe you can also ask it to give you how many grams in each serving of the individual ingredients plus the nutritional data. Very helpful when trying to reach nutrient goals like I am of protein, calcium etc.

It's not a "cover to cover" book. Some comments point out that the title is rather misleading and requires ingredients that are not exactly pantry staples in every home. I browsed through the recipe list in free sample and didn't see any that I felt excited about or was unfamiliar with. And I'm somewhat of a foodie but "chocolate pudding with brown sugar and miso" is not what I'd call "cook with anything". It's just $2 but I also find that I never use Kindle cookbooks while the paper cookbooks are used a lot.

Yep, that's a great point, I love cooking by weight, makes it so much easier than getting out measuring spoons, more accurate too.

For me the best thing about AI recipies, as a picky eater, I can say, I really don't like the idea of anchovy paste (or whatever), help me modify it. Then after you make it you can provide feedback and it will tweak the recipe or your technique.
