You'd have better luck recovering from software RAID, which is compatible with every DAS.
And if I recall, that one might have issues with USB-WAKE from boot, so it might be annoying to use with power outages.
There's also a much higher overhead with a dedicated NAS, even if you go with an underpowered consumer grade Synology or QNAP.
And even if you did need a NAS, you could get one of these and hook it up to a mini PC, which will outperform anything Synology currently offers.
It also simplifies expansion, as you can just buy a second DAS.
That's why most people avoid them. You're locked into the ecosystem.

It's pretty much plug and play. Install drives, install windows, hop into storage spaces and create raid. Set up sharing if you need network access. Lots of guides on that, if you want to stick with Windows, but also, there are a few open-source Linux-based NAS solutions out there.
Some people might complain about a lack of multiple NIC's or no 5/10 Gbps, but unless you have switches that support the higher speeds or you actually have that much constant traffic it's not needed.

I have the Orico 5-bay enclosure with the drives standing on end. CrystalDiskInfo was constantly throwing temp alarms with the top cover on, so I just leave it off. No other issues with mine other than having to power it on after an extended power outage. The drive speed is little slower than a SATA-attached drive, but still plenty fast to stream a 4k movie while handling automated backups. I'm using StableBit DrivePool with 11 drives in the pool, two parity drives for SnapRAID, and one SSD for the OS. Data hoarding is a disease.
